I also don't get the whole, "Well, you should have just left" mentality coming from people who think that you should always be submitted to some spiritual authority...

To leave, means you must find someone else to submit to, and it is like playing musical chairs if God comes back while the music is still playing...

And there is no way of knowing that the next person you submit to will be any better until after you have already submitted to him, then you have to start all over again at the beginning of this post.

I find this thread very interesting and very sad. I don't doubt any of this because I knew a pastor in Illinois that was exactly like the ones you all spoke about. He controlled every aspect of every saint's lives. Thank God I never had pastors like this. My UPC pastors were all very kind and loving and had our best interests at heart.

I would hope that these controlling pastors are the exceptions and not the rule. I'm sorry that you had to go through these things.

There are many hurting people out here in la-la land...I wish we could reach them all and help them to heal. And I wish we could bring about a solution for the ministry that promotes this kind of thinking. I think if they knew the damage being done, they would turn it around in a heartbeat.

It would be so awesome if this gave someone else the courage to see....a pastor to get a revalation...

My sister told me her pastor stood up and confessed to the congregation, he stood humbly and asked forgiveness, what an awesome man of God that is...what a humble man...a man who shows his love and trust of his flock..I pray one day to see that happen in our old church...
