1 Timothy 5:8
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
The family of God is encompassed of all the believers.

Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

There is no sin in giving to our Spiritual family.

Wow, talk about out of context. Does everyone in your spiritual family live in your house?

You KNOW what I mean. Why hide behind skewed logic? When you're nuclear family is needing to rely on food banks and utilities are at risk from being shut off... one has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.

Your first obligation is to your home. They are the believers immediately under your care.

Re: Tithing…Is it a command?

Few realize that the custom of tithing is connected to a rich history of social extortion and oppression brought on by the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages. It's not unlike slavery, the inquisitions, or any other terrible social policies of the historic church. However, today... preachers don't partner with mayors and city councils to impose a tithe... they make it a requirement for Heaven. Today... preachers don't advocate for the institution of slavery... but many do preach racism. Today... preachers don't launch inquisitions to persecute apostates... but many have dis-fellowshipped anyone who doesn't believe exactly like they do.

The history of the tithe doctrine, how it became incorporated in the church, and it's implementation is far from holy.

It's typically preached in a manner that makes it a "membership" due gained through extortion (threat of Hell).

Re: Tithing…Is it a command?

Those who believe in tithing as a "principle" do not necessarily require a tithe by threat of Hell. However, they do emotionally manipulate believers by implying that they don't love God enough, or aren't spiritual enough, or that they have questionable faith if they don't tithe. They may also deny "membership" to those who do not tithe. Essentially this equates to an emotional manipulation bordering on coercion.

As a result, tithes are collected through one of two methods: extortion or coercion.

The search for truth often takes one down a winding road. I'm more afraid of someone who is "convinced" that everything they believe is right without any objective reasoning.

Study the well documented history of tithing brethren. The facts (truth) will open your eyes to how this doctrine was introduced to the church and used as a doctrinal tool to advance Catholicism (and later, the Protestant church).

Brother, just 5 years ago, this man left us and said oneness Pentecostalism was a heretical cult.
I think we need to keep a close eye on this guy...he could be a trinitarian "plant" with tithing in his back pocket....yuk

You forgot about a third method: Love for God.
