An open mind is willing to examine the truth of a claim and if true accept it as being true. I can accept as being true that smoking crack will ruin your life but having an open mind does not mean I will try smoking crack to see how it feels.

An open MIND is about the MIND...it's about TRUTHES. An open mind will look at the facts of evolution and if the facts pan out accept evolution is true. If it is true, then it is true. Truth is Truth. God created ALL things including truth.

An open mind considers the merits of someone elses viewpoint and weighs if they are true or not. If you LOVE the truth then you will objectively examine such things. Open Mindedness means objectivity. Close mindedness means subjectivity.

I would dare to say as an example that many Muslims are Muslims because they are NOT open minded and are subjective in how they view their own religion and ours.

I would also say as an example that if the early Trinitarians were NOT willing to be open minded, or objective, but were subjective, they NEVER would have become oneness because they would never have been willing to examine the Trinity.

Close Mindedness is akin to handing your brain over to someone else and not thinking for yourself

I am not distorting anything. My original point was that we value open-mindedness way too highly. Some things shouldn't be entertained.

You guys...what if someone comes to you and says "hey, someone claiming to he you cousin is in town....

So being in prison and NOT being able to go there and see if this person is indeed his cousin, he asks a brother or a friend to go and see...

Come on...John was in PRISON and only HEARD that there was someone doing works. He did not doubt Christ was the messiah...he had no idea who this person was because John was not there to see. John was in prison...lol

I understand the point you are trying to make but I think it is fundamentally wrong to characterize having an "open mind" as you do.

An open mind simply means one is willing to entertain ideas and concepts they currently do not hold. To evaluate them. based on facts presented rather than rejecting them out of hand. That is a virtue.

Im chilled lol. I don't know what your problem is, but I'm just responding to what you posted. Trust me, unless I call you an idiot and start posting in all capital letters I am quite calm and collected. How else could I make you arguments look so silly

And btw MY orginal point is you are mis-using the term open mindedness. Open mindedness is good. CLose mindedness is bad.

Accepting everything and anything as true without proof is not open mindedness and is bad. Trying everything just to experience it is not open mindedness either. It's experimentation

BTW I never said we should forsake the truth...that is NOT open mindedness, so quoting that verse shows me you still don't get what I am putting down :-)

I've never understood it that way nor heard it preached along that line BUT I'm going to be open minded and think about it.
