For all those who don't want the money
mail it to me and preach for free.I work hard
for my money and I expect my pay check on
Fridays.Its a shame when a preacher knocks
himself out studying and praying and fasting and
visiting the sick and taking the oh pastor its an emergancy
I just have to talk to you right now phone calls or
better yet knocks on the door at midnight by those
feeling like all hope is gone and they are resented
for wanting to be paid.go figure.
Well don't call us because we aren't gassing up our vehicles
or buying our own plane tickets to get a twenty dollar offering.
I have seen churches not even give an offering but call the people to
just go up and put the money in the preachers hand. Its a good thing
they weren't preaching for anything but the love of Jesus because
its about all they received.

I have NEVER in over 40 years of preaching asked for or even about a certain amount for preaching. I have never promised anyone a certain amount and in all my years only had ONE guy asked me about the amount he would recieve.
The majority of the time it was way more than I was worth. I have been humbled by the kindness extended to me the nice accomodations(most of the time) and generous offerings and meals. I should have been paying them to preach instead of recieving. I would NOT use a person who requested a certain amount. I would be offended that they would think I would not take care of them. Then the EGO to ask would cross them off they have nothing they can tell me or the flock I pastor. I preach all across this nation at special meetings and for Apostolic churches large and small and have been well taken care of. I NEVER take an offering from a home missions church.

The whole idea of a preacher requiring a certain amount of money or particular perks like certain brands of bottled water, quality of hotel room, etc sickens me. I believe they will have an interesting time explaining themselves on judgement day.

The mindset is beyond me. The ego-factor to me would ruin anything they would have to say.

I would suggest, without inside information, that the honorarium for a night speaker at a large UPC campmeeting is in the $500 - $1000 per night range. A reasonable remuneration for the time required to prepare, travel, and preach at such an event. (The per night amount is probably reduced if the event involves several services)

I'm sure that there are some here that could give a much more accurate range for the honorariums at campmeetings.

This is pretty pitiful. It shows how much we value the preacher that brings the word. To me, a large campmeeting should pay its preachers at least $2500 per night, plus lodge them in the best hotel available, and feed them the best food available.

I can understand that a small church may not be able to do as much, but churches need to start thinking "excellence" when inviting ministers.

There are some folks that dont even make that as a take home pay for an entire month. Why would we ask those very people to give generously in an offering of a man who already has way more than them? And for one night?? Thats a bit extravagant.

Maybe its just me but why wouldnt an offering of even a weekly salary for one nights preaching be plenty? Dont forget thats a cleared amount of money as all there lodging, gas, plane tickets, meals are covered.

I think in the UPC we have created many preachers who look down there nose at saints as peasants who owe them something.
