my point is that you accept the translation "repentance" because that is the word you grew up with. If they are dissimilar, then find a dissimilar word, imo--Jesus, John and Paul, et al, did not use the word "repentance;" they spoke Aramaic. And carry the mind-changing through to the rest of the verse, if you dare. I have not been struck by lightning yet.

Re: ADMIN Announcement (Renda and Timmy)
i have examples, from this forum of repentance turned into penance, by God-fearing Pents who are doing their best. It is a slur, wadr. It twists the Scripture, causing at least a reminiscence of RCC. Toss it. There are at least five better ways to put that. Change your mind

Question can you read Greek and Aramaic?

Re: ADMIN Announcement (Renda and Timmy)
no, but i have studied under those fluent in it, and know that foreign words are not limited to a single expression in English. Insisting upon the word used by any one person is to limit God, and forces exclusion of others; which may be witnessed in the fruit of all those going around chattering " Acts 2:38" all the time. What is the point of that? To exclude anyone questioning the extremely narrow interpretation of it.

Re: ADMIN Announcement (Renda and Timmy)
"be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins"
or, as it comes down to us in the vast majority of cases now,
"Now that you have said those words in church, and accepted Christ with your mouth, in fear, come and get wet while we say some more words over you; hopefully the exactly right ones, or you will have to redux it." yikes

The word repentance "extremely narrow interpretation" give us some sources? I cannot read Greek but I do use lexicons all I have read give repentance the same definition I use? For example: Thayer, Vines, Wuest, Vincent, Zophidates, Bauer.

"be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins"
off the top of my head, what's wrong with
"immerse yourself in the One who bore the Cross for you" or something--anything, seeing as how so many "get baptized" and then continue sinning after flopping around for a while and giving up. And still, lightning has not struck me.

sorry, my Source does not bother to publish if this sounds like heresy to you, by all means ignore it.
I go with "Rebound" there, as the definition/imagery appealed to me; a 180 degree change of MO, immediate, like a trampoline, after confession.
http://www.biblenews1.com/define/rebound.htm
i like "Change your mind," too, as long as it is understood that it is not the same as "i was going to ________, but i changed my mind."

Re: ADMIN Announcement (Renda and Timmy)
i can testify that you will receive the Holy Spirit if you work at this; and even end up speaking in tongues, lol. I get asked all the time what the heck i am talking about, when i am using plain English. Not meaning to discount your glossololia; if that is producing fruit for you, i say amen.

Well my sources publish because they can validate their findings. These are the foremost Greek authorities we know? So why would I accept an opinion that cannot be proven. Webster agrees with these lexicographers. You have a right to your own opinion you don't have a right to your own facts!
