Re: Romance Songs to the Lord
Where in the Psalms does David write about the Lord with sexual innuendos that were common IN HIS DAY? I don't believe for a minute King David was using sexual innuendos or references that were common in his day to speak of his worship to the Lord. His worship was full of reverence, honor, and respect for the Mighty God. No Psalms comes to mind where David said "I want to touch your face, hear your heart beat, and caress you with songs of love" etc. etc.
No, his Psalms spoke of the majesty, honor, and glory of God, of his kingship... I suppose you could be able to dig up a reference in the Psalms that may have some sexual innuendo to it... but a thousand more references to the kingship, honor, glory, majesty, strength etc. of the Lord.
Psalms 24: 6-10
6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.
7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

OK, so I assume that you are a man, so... how does that make you feel to worship God as your "husband"? Could you sing lyrics like this(and I'll just make something up here) "Jesus oh Jesus, husband of mine, I love to feel your warm embrace, your cheeks against my face, Jesus oh Jesus, husband of mine." ???
Or, would this song (straight out of the Psalms) cause your heart to lift itself in worship the Lord:
Psalms 18:1-6
1 (To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,) I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
4 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.
6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
Which kind of song would you rather sing to the Lord?

So how does it feel, as a woman, to be counted as a son of God?
1Jn 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
Really, I don't feel comfortable with some of the songs and understand your point.

Being able to call myself a son of God, and the bride of Christ are both broad terms really that are really more parable-like in nature, than actual physical descriptions.
I just think that to use sexual innuendos in reference to a Holy and Mighty God just doesn't feel right to me. Granted, I never thought anything of it really until my husband mentioned, and then I began to notice just how may "boyfriend" songs about Jesus there are.
I hope everyone understands that this discussion is where I am sharing my personal preference and understanding, but if you feel differently, well, more power to you!

That word simply means "to worship". In Spanish worship is translated "adorar"

Re: Romance Songs to the Lord
Most because of their lack of knowledge of IHOP don't realize they are one of the few groups out there that believe in Jesus as a man of war and a God of judgment!
Listen if you dare.
He is not my boyfriend. I have heard Mike Bickle rebuke that way of thinking. Yet am I a lover of Jesus? Is he a lover of me? Yes a thousand times over! Intimacy with him is the greatest thing I have ever known.

Well I give you credit for trying. I have been greatly impressed with IHOP music for the last 6 years.
And yet there were many great Charismatic songs loving Jesus before IHOP came along.
Im not AGAINST the hymn type songs. Or Pentecostal songs. I even like some of them. Its just when I came into the Charismatic Movement I noticed a difference that I have always enjoyed more FOR INTIMATE WORSHIP.

Re: Romance Songs to the Lord
IHOP is one of the VERY FEW Charismatic/Pentecostal Churches that sing of the JUDGMENT of God.
