Re: Chavez is Dead

I think this quote from an editorial by the editorial board at the USA Today newspaper site pretty much sums Hugo Chavez up;

"it could well turn out that Chavez's legacy will be a familiar and pedestrian one: that of the popular leader who came to power democratically then behaved more like a dictator, claiming virtually all power for himself and leaving behind little but instability. South America has seen it before."

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Chavez is not burning in Hell. He is sleeping in Hades. He will one day awake from death to be judged.

Re: Chavez is Dead

God allows men to rule, and when their cup is full, they are taken out!!! Chavez was a divider not a uniter so as with other evil dicators, he is gone.

He now will face judgement, as all men shall, the fire of the refiner will complete what is lacking in him. God is no fool, nor is He a monster. We should all be humbled by the knowledge that we too shall be judged, and salted with fire.

Where is it now or then, it is the same to Chavez, the moment he died, the next He will be there.

Re: Chavez is Dead

We have a Venezuelan couple in our church. One is a university professor and the other a police officer. They loved Chavez. When they first started coming, I went to dinner with them and made a couple of wise cracks about Hugo. They weren't offended, but they made it clear that his perception here was not the way most Venezuelans viewed him. He was a hero because he came from poverty and championed the cause of the oppressed. He replaced a series of very corrupt leaders and political parties that neglected the poor while ingratiating themselves. The only difference I see in Chavez and those whom he replaced was that he used the wealth of the nation not only to help himself, he used it to help the commoners in his country. This is why he was loved so much and why people were willing, like this couple, to turn a blind eye to the fact that Chavez became a dictator and abused his power against his political opponents.

I personally didn't like him, but I love this couple so much, I just kept my opinion to myself when we would get together and talk about the world and Venezuela. I avoid getting gas at any Citgo and Valero stations because they sell Venezuelan gasoline. Chavez supported Hezbollah and the Iranian regime.

I sent them texts yesterday telling them how sorry I was for them. I know it broke their hearts that he died. They plan to move back whenever the husband retires.
