Yep to churches of that time period. Not that we can apply it today but some things written were for them such as apostles taught they were living in last days.

Not true. Not all his words apply to us today.

Hmm, "There is nothing new under the sun" I think you'd have a hard time finding a Word from Christ that could not be applied today?

How about go and sell all you have and give it to the poor and follow me?

Have you done that? Has anyone on AFF? I doubt it?

Well, just because it isn't being applied, doesn't mean it doesn't apply?
I would argue that a current day spiritual walk will have this element, and yes I have done this, a form of it. It kind of just happened, I didn't really equate it with this verse until later.

So lest I leave you with the impression that I just woke up one day and said, "I think I'll go sell all my stuff today, and give the money to the poor," it didn't really happen like that.

I don't know of a preterist who would say that the teachings of Jesus aren't relevant today because they are relevant.

But, there are certain passages of scripture which aren't specifically to believers today at all such as Matt 24 speaking of the destruction of the temple. Believers today aren't going to see the destruction of the temple and Jesus' words concerning that future (at the time) event was for those living during that particular age, aion. When Jesus said "you" in speaking to His disciples, He wasn't speaking to you and me or the billions of Christians who have lived since 70AD, He was speaking to a group of people who would actually experience those things which He was predicting.

While Matt 24 isn't written TO us today, it's written FOR us that we might see the unfolding of God's plan for mankind. Matt 24 was speaking of the destruction of the temple which happened in 70AD and is quite plain about that.

So the tribulation and the coming of Jesus and our gathering together unto him were for the first century Church in Jerusalem and now I guess we just die and go to Heaven. There is no second coming for us.

We have close friends who have done that... twice. They gave away their home, and all they had, TWICE... even their car (bought a motorcycle, and lived in a tent for several years). They gave all away not once, but twice.
Material things mean nothing to them. I think they'd do it again if they felt the need. Amazingly, after giving everything away, twice... they have more than enough now, and God is the supplier of all their needs.

I've never done that... and yet... my heart has been longing for a simpler lifestyle where material things are not a concern...

Starting at the beginning of Matt 24, Jesus began by speaking of the destruction of the temple, not some temple destruction 2000+ years in the future. The destruction of the temple and all the associated events surrounding it are past.
