So what about blacks not being able to vote until my lifetime? What about blacks being thrown out of restaurants and not being allowed to use public restrooms or water fountains, in your lifetime? Are you tired of that one? What about the fact that still to this day whites have a significantly greater likelihood of being hired than a black person. Tired of that one?
What is your advice, exactly, to a black person that has been rejected from employment because of the color of their skin...or do you not think that happens anymore?

These issues of discrimination have nothing to do with slavery!! I am totally against discrimination the BEST applicant should ALWAYS get the job! Here at Allstate we dont know skin color until the interview! ANd the most qualified ALWAYS wins!!! One last point none of the blacks I have hired have ever been slaves and less than 35% of blacks have ancestors that were slaves! So do you think they all should get some special consideration since a few can trace their geneology to a slave??

In one of my departments, I have two employees and they are people of color. A new employee with IT has come aboard and has tried to stir things up in that department and basically she's trying to take over. She is also a person of color.
Both employees had complained about the trouble she was giving them.
I had a "come to Jesus" meeting with her and told her to back off my employees and do her job. She thanked me for the meeting and said that just that morning she had prayed that God would show her what she was doing wrong.
THEN.....she went to one of my employees and read her the right act - mad and upset that she came to me with the problems. She even called her a skank and said she had thought of ways to get back at her, but decided not to.
She didn't think the male employee would complain (but he did too).
When I talked with my two employees about this situation, the male employee asked if he could be upfront with me. I said absolutely - it's all about candor.
He said, the reason she is so upset that we told you what she was doing and you talked to her about it is because she thought since we are all three people of color that we'd be her homies and stick with her. She never thought we'd come tell our white manager.
I WAS FLOORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sad thing, I think he's right.

Sadly, he probably is right. I've seen way too much of the same thing.

And if she's terminated, she'll sue the company for discrimination.
I'm not from the south, but it still happens.

••Der. But it doesn't always happen, especially when a minority is involved.
Here at Allstate we dont know skin color until the interview!

That's the ridiculous comeback that's used against all who are disenfranchised, including the ADA and people who are disabled. "You mean, you want special treatment?" No, of course not. Just equal treatment.

Slave:
"Etymology: Middle English sclave, from Anglo-French or Medieval Latin; Anglo-French esclave, from Medieval Latin sclavus, from Sclavus Slavic; from the frequent enslavement of Slavs in central Europe during the early Middle Ages."
My grandmother was Czech and going back on my grandfather's side there were many Bohemians (Czechs) and Poles.
For one people to describe the horrible conditions that their ancestors suffered, they have to actually invoke the very name of my ancestors. What do I get for having been descended from the victims of such suffering and injustice?
And, my blond haired and blue eyed children are also the direct descendants of African American slaves. What do they get?
When the slaves were given freedom, they were given a great opportunity. When they were guaranteed civil rights (belatedly) they were given even greater opportunities.

You didn't ask me - but I think that if the company is large enough that they should "pass up" a few of the "better qualified" just to expand their base of diversity. I don't think that this should be mandated by law, but it should be something that every large corporation recognizes as being a good business practice.
Having a diverse work force will help the company competitively. It makes good conservative business sense.

However, there are a lot of people that make things bad for themselves and others around them.
They come in all colors.
Renda cited an experience that involved black people.
Excuses are not acceptable.
The behavior described is completely indefensible.
Now, you can't keep making excuses for people. You're so much of a bleeder, you could die from blood loss one day!

Where'd you hear that stat from, Michael Savage? It's a bogus number.
Did you know that 71.4% of statistics are made up?
