But this is not a church, this is a message board, and as individuals we're just saying - 'yeah, that's about what is to be expected, unfortunately'.
That's not downplaying his hurt. Most of us are VERY aware of the pain involved. It stinks. I wish it didn't happen like that. I hope someday that it changes. It has in some places. Hopefully, over time, this will become a rarity.
But, for now.... this is not unusual. Unfortunately. And if the original poster truly was surprised, then he must have a pretty unusual church if he's never witnessed this reaction before.
No one's saying it's okay.
This is a message board of believers.
I'm not hearing: 'yeah, that's about what is to be expected, unfortunately'. Ferd, with many of other's "amen" and blessing, basically rebuked the guy.
What happened to "sorry that has happened" and a follow-up with questions. Instead, he got a big slap in the face. I don't see how you or others thinking this is common, is an excuse to call this guy out for "being shocked."
Knowing it and experiencing it are not the same. And unfortunately, not many critique their own church, or have taken times to deal with issues they see. It's business-as-usual. So when a crisis like leaving the church happens, they are personally SEEING the fangs.

Exaclty... this isn't the FIRST TIME this church has done this. So don't blame me if I am amazed at his suprise as if this would be the "first time". Which obviously it is not.
Well the point of shunning in part was taught by Paul. How far the view of heresy and evils deeds is viewed.... who knows.
It wasn't TAUGHT by Paul. It was a specific situation in Corinthians of an incestuous man who continually paraded his sin before the church.
The other groups Paul warned them not to give hospitatlity to were Judaizers. The irony.
Amazing, that we take from that a practice of shunning other believers.
What should be also noted is these heretics that added to the Gospel, didn't just leave... they were sneaking into the church when Paul would leave, and would tell them they weren't saved! Let's keep perspective here! This guy is leaving. Not holding private church meetings, adding to the Gospel, etc.

First time or 100th time. It's happening to him. He's feeling it and experiencing it. Why is it taking so much explanation by this brother to get empathy!
So they preach Acts 2:38. I know many preachers who teach Acts 2:38 and I could not doctrinally go there because they teach OSAS or similar views. Acts 2:38 is not the end all to all doctrine. It's a good start of general belief but I would question why the other things are taught from a doctrinal standpoint. Everything has a source reason. Though I do know preachers who teach parts of different views and ignore the areas where they contradict each other.
Don't be suprised at what you experience. You need to be the shield for your family by attitude toward God and his leading. What any pastor preaches is minor it's what God says to your heart that matters andI think you know that.
My home church is UPC..Apostolic Pentecostal that is why i mentioned them.
The church I am visiting has the same doctrinal standpoint as my home church but the pastor preaches modesty and expects the church to listen to God when it comes to their personal standards. Some women that attend look like any other UPC women but some have trimmed hair and wear pants. He lets it be a personal deal between you and God, not a rule of the church.
Well fist off nothing in this post is a lie. Im not shocked that they have questions but I am SHOCKED that true Christians would ever label someone so fast because they VISITED another church. Im also shocked because these people are my family and I feel if a true concern comes from them then they should come to me and discuss it and not talk to everyone else about it.
Secondly I have not once BASHED anyone. I respect my leadership and I love the foundation that the UPC has given me and I do love my church and the people in it. I just wish their minds were a bit more open to realize not EVERYONE will do as they do but that don’t mean they are hell bound.
Also I am not turning my back on anyone or my church, Im simply doing what I feel is best for my family. Im not saying they are wrong or that I want nothing to do with them. I just want to see what else is out there!!
Man you got on your high horse quick!!! ULTRA CON or LIBERAL as they come I still expect Christians to be on this Forum considering its called APOSTOLIC FRIENDS FORUM.
First of all anyone in leadership in a conservative church knows full well what is taught and what the general feelings are about Standards and salvation.
I find it VERY hard to believe that you are both in leadership in a conservative church and are shocked at the reaction you are getting when they find out you are thinking about "going Charismatic".
I am not for a second buying it.
as for my high horse, I get that way pretty quickly when I see people do what you are doing.
You own your actions bro. you do. not them. Don’t blame them for the reaction that anyone with any affiliation with conservatives know is natural in that setting.
The sooner you accept this is about YOU and not THEM, the better off you will be. Man up, make your decision and be happy with it.

You see they left one UPC church for another UPC! My mom was a member of that church since 1951 so she should be shunned by friends of 60 years???
No... you didn't give that info. I think it's stupid how people do this stuff. I am friends with everyone from different churches and fellowship all the time. I know several baptist ministers that can tell you the same thing when it came to Calvinism and Arminian arguments. Talk about arguments and people leaving and praying for there lost souls. YIKES!
I agree!!! Ferd's horse is high!! HIS post reeked of sarcasm and IMO was downright rude!! I would not wanna be his friend muchless go to church with him!!
good for you. and I dont mind you saying it.
sometimes people need to be shaken up a bit.
