I agree....that's interesting. Says a lot, I suppose. I forgot to tell it to our staff in our staff meeting last Monday and again on Tuesday. I would bet every dollar to my name (not many) there won't be so much as a slight smile of grin. I won't present it humorously (no way I could) but I'll present it as something I heard and would like their reaction.

Here's the connecting chain....
1) The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. While among us, he encountered the broken and had great compassion on them, including the sexually immoral. While others scorned and attacked, he loved.
2) Christ died for the ungodly. It was messy, gory, and horrifically painful. But it was for the redemption of mankind.
3) He was resurrected and before he ascended into heaven, he commissioned and sent those who would follow him, to emulate and represent Him.
4) Hundreds of years later, we, as the church representing him and literally, his body, are encountering those who have fallen into the depths of sin.
5) We have the answer. It's the efficacious, regenerating, power of the gospel of Jesus Christ, of which we are stewards.
6) And in our greatest opportunity to share the all-covering, redemptive Grace of God, we:
Laugh AT and tell jokes about those who have fallen???
God help us.

What's horrible is what these leaders have done. Many people will be crushed because of their indiscretions. Leaders like David who still had to pay the price for their sin and it cost everyone. There are some things which leaders should not be failing and falling into. Minor struggles, people can deal with. Major moral failings are unacceptable. God certainly forgives and so should we, but that in no way absolves the guilty. Forgiveness is no excuse for sin. We sow to the wind, we reap the whirlwind.

I wouldn't dare, and have never, excused this behavior. But does sinful behavior give us the license to laugh, mock, and make fun? Surely not! How in the world could we?

Like it or not, humor sometimes help deal with the painful reality. You view it one way only....in the worst possible light. That is your prerogative. Not everyone else sees it your way. Sorry, that's the way it is.

You aren't addressing the point I'm making. You just keep saying "people are gonna laugh." I get that. Don't you think we, as Followers of Christ, should be better than that? If you were in crisis, would you rather have a Christ-Follower laugh at you or pray for you?

Re: More Jokes
A Wife's Love
A very old man lay dying in his bed. In death's doorway, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookie wafting up the stairs.
He gathered his remaining strength and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort forced himself down the stairs, gripping the railing with both hands. With labored breath, he leaned against the door frame, gazing into the kitchen.
Were it not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven. There, spread out on newspapers on the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favorite chocolate chip cookies. Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted wife, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man?
Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself toward the table. The aged and withered hand, shaking, made its way to a cookie at the edge of the table, when he was suddenly smacked with a spatula by his wife.
"Stay out of those," she said. "They're for the funeral.
