Lord, especially these days. I hadn't thought much about them being on the same lines as regular gambling. I'll have to think about that. My first thought is that you are investing in viable companies that you expect to succeed. I thinkthat is a little different than playing Bingo.

When I was, I think, 10 years old we had our annual Catholic Church picnic. I played Bingo, won $10, took my money and walked off. I knew I would lose it if I played again!!! I've never been a gambler with money! Maybe with my life, but not money!

My opinion would be someone's works that you would read over and over again. I would read David Horowitz book, Radical Son, again, but not all of his books. I only know one book that I would read over and over and over again - The Bible.

My husband is saying - Louis L'Amour! He needs to go to work today!!!

I'll have to see if he would get into McMannus' books.

It would depend on the genre and obviously the taste of the reader but;

The kind of writing that DB does should include several things:

A clear and concise statement of the issue.

An offering of something more than they same old played out clichés.

The ability to create "Ah a" moments in the reader.

Finally, a little humility from someone who had none, zero, zip, nada, training in theological writing when most of his books were written. (And yet he still holds the same views after an education.)

An example is C.S. Lewis in the forward to The Problem of Pain -

"If any real theologian reads these pages he will very easily see that they are the work of a laymen and an amateur...If any parts of the book are 'original,' in the sense of being novel or unorthodox, they are so against my will and as a result of my ignorance."

DB is no where near the level of writer of C.S. Lewis (few are) but yet Lewis is more humble in his writing than DB has ever been.

I don't think comparing doctrinal/theological works (that Bernard has written) and works regarding the matter of the heart (largely C.S. Lewis works) as a fair comparison of a show of humility, Baron.

Bernard has written some theological works, of which he still embraces, and is being criticized for that? I think we would more criticize him if he flip flopped around his doctrinal stances.

The Problem of Pain, doesn't deal with matters of the heart. It is theological/philosophical. Mere Christianity matters of the heart?

Segraves has written books that he has completely abandoned as his education has progressed. He is not afraid to say I was wrong. DB goes to the Scripture intent on validating a point of view, thus the inability to say "Oops I messed that one up." I would think that writing theological books with no education and then getting an education would change your views. If not your arrogance has blocked your ability to learn.

Re: If I'm Out Of Order...

Has Bernard ever addressed the Holy Hair issue yet (not including the one or two Clintonesque-type short non-answers I have read from him)?

I am glad DB is our new GS.

I still don't like the books I have read by him, but I now realize the books I am familiar with were written over 20 years ago.

Besides, he's written several, I've written none.

Maybe one day I'll write a book on the Gospel and Biblical Doctrines and let someone talk about how much they like or don't like my work.
So just out of couriosity, did you modify your original assessment based on thinking he may be more to the left than you had thought?
