That tiltle does describe legalistic rule enforcing churches.

The mistake is when you have churches who just tell people how to live for God, but never allow room for people to grow by teaching and equipping them to serve God from a very personal relationship with God… the kind of relationship that only comes from a daily prayer and reading/studying the word often… there is no other way to serve him. In order to have life in us and to live by him… we have to partake of the Spirit/wine and Word/flesh daily…
John 6:53 It has just been my experience that often people live from what they are told and not from true experience with him.
I had someone close to me tell me once to stop telling my girls how to live, and teach them how to live right… I stopped and thought about it… You really never get anywhere by just telling someone how to do something… but teaching and leading by example works much better. I have spent much time leading by example… but way more time telling than actually teaching and making them think for themselves. I’ve had to change.
I thought of how I learned to live for God and to hear his voice for myself… it took someone teaching me the Word…and teach he did. He would ask questions of me…and make me search out the answers for myself… in doing so, I fell in love with the Word of God. I no longer had someone just telling me something from a pulpit…but I learned by being encouraged to study and to listen to God.
It has made a big difference in my relationship with God…. I’m learning of him… just not hearing about him. The word hidden in my heart is what keeps me from sinning against him…
I might be labeled a liberal… I don’t like labels because in some areas, I might be more conservative than upc, but in some areas, I am as liberal as the most liberal person on this forum.
I just caution removing guardrails from people if they have not been taught to be in the Word for themselves. If you take someone who assumes hair cutting is sin just as much as going out drinking is sin…then you will have confused people who might go haywire unless they are spiritually stable and strong.
I speak from experience of watching it first hand.
sorry to ramble… I’m bad at that..
