Might have been off to perform some circumcisions, or something. Hey, they were Hebrews, after all.

In such a situation praying to God to protect your family -and not doing anything yourself is like the guy on the roof praying to God to save him from the flood and turning away the guy who appears in the boat because you think GOD will save you, not him.
O Daniel was the GOD that you serve able to deliver you from the mouth of the lion?

In both scenarios, everyone in your family is saved and the intruder is not. What are the eternal consequences of each scenario?

Scenario 3: I shoot the intruder, and the members of my family go on to make a significant difference in the spiritual lives of many more people. That’s an eternal consequence.
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one.
Not being willing to defend your family is unacceptable.

Yes, that is one possible "what happened later" of scenario 1 (and not the only one, I would add). But what about the immediate outcome?

Scenario 1: one soul enters hell, to be tormented forever.

Scenario 2: everyone in your family enters heaven.

Note that a possible follow-up to scenario 2 is that the murderer later gets saved. No possibility of that in 1.

Taking THIS thought to its logical extreme makes you realize how we should be holding ticker tape parades for every abortion doctor who has ever killed a baby. After all, EVERY baby that the good doctor kills is going to heaven versus 1% (or .01% according to some of our good UC friends) of babies that live will make it -the vast majority will eventually be burning endlessly.

Some people don't like to think about that.

I don't live my life or faith based on a "What if" or possiblilty scenario. TO me it's black and white, you enter my house and threaten my family, I shoot.

He broke the law and threatened my family. I won't let my family die over a "what-if".

Scenario 1: His issue and his consequence , not my problem. He chose that path.
