Ferd, there was an outcry at Trent Lott's comments but he didn't lose his seat. There has been a few things that make people view the Republican party as the one with the race issues in our lifetime, but I don't think anyone would have lost his or her seat for calling someone clean and articulate in my honest opinion. BUt yes I do agree with the notion that the Republicans are in fact scrutinized quite a bit more closely in this area.

you are right. Lott lost his leadership positions. he became a back bencher over night dispite the fact that he has senority.
so let me be more accurate, there is no way on God's green earth that a republican who had issued that line would be in line for the Vice Presidency....
and you are right. Republicans have opposed affirmative action. that has put them at odds with the African American civil rights movement.
I just find great hypocracy in how so many liberals get away with terrible displays of race based comments when republicans get attacked if they acutally did anything or not.

It goes a bit deeper than Affirmative action, but I personally would like to see all politicians measured by the same bar...and have that bar raised above the subterrainial level they enjoy now.

Ahhh, yes I do remember this post. The reasons were so weak IMO I had forgotten.
Its a laundry list of generic promises that any politician can make and have made for generations. I doubt that he will do any of the above except definitely items #1, #6 and #7.

Its like the answer in a Miss America pageant:
"I will work for world peace and seek to eliminate violence."
