Still, lets say snakes are handled and you get bitten,is that person lost?Did they fail God?

Really would be doing a better job selling me on this by providing where it happened INTENTIONALLY in scripture,I find examples of tongues and healing but not in KNOWINGLY grabbing snakes and
I don't think that person is lost, just ignorant. Of course, we are all ignorant, in one area or another.

Re: Snake Handling is Wrong?

I have picked up snakes before. Not in church. Just to have fun & show children that all snakes are not bad. I use to teach hunter ed.
I'm a person that respects snakes and know they can and will bite.
I'm not for tempting the Lord by handling snakes in church.
Should I get bite in the outdoors, my trust is in the Lord.
I did not read all the post.
Sounded like a good thread.

Is there any scriptural example of snake handling?

If you think it's wrong, Why? or Why Not?

A practice of snake handling as per the inbred populations back east is foreign to the bible. Also in my view it's the same as tempting God

Mat 4:5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple
Mat 4:6 and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, "'He will command his angels concerning you,' and "'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"
Mat 4:7 Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

You know, these snake handling "brethren"of ours, i care not whether they speak in tongues ans sound like a Chinese luandry.

I care not whether they have been baptised properly according to scripture.

These folks do not know Jesus Christ. They are delusional people that in fact lack severely in slavational faith.

They operate under a false faith that can never liberate.

Paul alluded to this type of faith in Philipians 3:9 Snake handlers put their faith in themselves. Salvation takes a faith in Christ.

Saying nothing about them being Just lack the faith, they do not display the faith.

Re: Snake Handling is Wrong?

why is this old thread resurrected again?

Since everyone has an opinion, I'll give mine.

I don't believe Mark 16 teaches that we should intentionally handle snakes, any more than it teaches we should drink poison, walk into traffic without looking both ways, and intentionally get sick so we can prove God's healing power.

Although I do not agree with those folks, I consider them brothers and sisters. I would not say they are lost just because we don't see eye to eye on this.

For me to say a snake handler is lost because we do not agree doctrinally would be as bad as a one-stepper saying a three-stepper is lost or as bad as a three-stepper saying a one stepper is lost because we don't see eye to eye doctrinally.
