Pretty simple.
If the pastor (and I have no clue who he even is) were here, we might get an interesting perspective from the other side of the coin.

'Anti' what?
That's why I asked you to go ahead and use your voice to speak for them.
Why would they feel the need to control things so tightly?

Mrs......
I realize that it will be very easy for you to take this personally.
I am not defending any particular practice of the pastor in question.
I am just saying that many are judging and making some oretty strong statements about the man based totally on the recollections of those who walked away from the church.
I have lived long enough to know that many times the perspectives of different people looking at the same event can be very different.
We are just getting one side here.
Also, it is a fact that people who "backslide" are very, very inclined to have extremely negative things to say about the church in order to vindicate their own actions.
That is human nature.

This is true! Sometimes our recollections can be skewed over time! I'm not saying that the stories in this thread aren't true, but I would be interested to hear the other side of the story. I wonder how they would justify their actions!

I agree with every word of this post. I don't understand some of the assumptions made, but the thoughts after they were made and stated I do agree with.

Amos (Bill), here is the list from the very first post (and a few more posted some even more extreme ones in the proceeding pages).
Rules...
1. No talking on the phone for more than 10 minutes
2. No friends outside of church, not even family (it was discouraged strongly)
3. No more than three families at a time in your home and not too often, if you had a gathering you are suppose to ask everyone in the church so no one gets offended.
4. No home bible studies without the ministry being there
5. You must attend all fellowships
6. So lunch dates, or shopping with friends even the ones in church...
7. No important decisions made without consulting the pastor...like, buying a car(new, used, how much you can spend)...same with a home or property.
8. You were not allowed to move, unless you had his OK.

Who is that you are calling a backslider Amos? Many have posted of some pretty disturbing things on this thread Amos, myself included.
Which of these odd rules or standards do YOU see from the other side of the coin.
Is it perhaps the one of having to have pastoral approval to buy a new car or another one....please do tell us which of these that you can see as anything any sane pastor should be bridling his saints with?

Pianoman,
Honestly I am not trying to impugn anyone. I am not questioning the character of any of the recollectors; just wanting to point out that we see things from our own acute angle, and that doesn't always tell the whole story.
This Elder from Oregon has been absolutely dragged through the mud here. I have read some pretty hard statements made against him.
Before we render the verdict, we ought to remember that there are always two sides to every story.
As a pastor, I have been lied on once or twice, and had things twisted completely out of resemblance to the facts often enough to know it can happen.
Wounded spirits can alter perception incredibly. And some wounds are self-inflicted.

My name is not Bill, or anything close to Bill.
