I don't think 2nd Degree Murder will fly.

I used to think Manslaughter would not fly, but it would have been a bit easier to comprehend and convince a Manslaughter charge-- unless the Prosecution has some solid evidence that has not been made public yet.

Do you all realize that this case would not have been national news had the Sanford PD just arrested this guy in the first place? Or if the Martin family just accepted that their son was the cause of his own death that night he went to the store to get iced tea and skittles?

How is it the case can go from "Ok, you killed him in self defense? You can go home," to 2nd Degree Murder? The facts haven't changed. The Prosecution presented the facts and a Judge agreed that there is probable cause to believe that 2nd Degree Murder took place.

This does nothing for the reputation of the Sanford PD or the District Attorney's office over in Seminole County.

Angela Corey presented the facts, Charged zim with 2nd Degree Murder and a Judge agreed that there was "Probable Cause" for such a charge and now a guy who took a kid's life is behind bars. Finally!

I am glad!
How? Political pressure?

Harvard Prof. Alan Dershowitz: Zimmerman Arrest Affidavit ‘Irresponsible And Unethical’

Dershowitz called the affidavit justifying Zimmerman’s arrest “not only thin, it’s irresponsible.” He went on to criticize the decision to charge Zimmerman for second degree murder by special prosecutor Angela Corey as being politically motivated.

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/harvard-p...and-unethical/
This is Florida law for Second degree murder - "The unlawful killing of a human being, when perpetrated by any act imminently dangerous to another and evincing a depraved mind regardless of human life, although without any premeditated design to effect the death of any particular individual.:

Basically, there is no "probable cause" in the charging instrument.

Read this on Twitter: "I'm extremely disappointed in @PamBondi for appointing Angela Corey to begin with. Bondi had to know what this Corey scumbag was like."

JD - how will you react if he is found not guilty?
I personally believe that Corey believed it would have been career suicide not to have charged him.
If I was in her shoes I would have most likely followed the same course of action.
Insofar as the Sanford PD and Seminole DA, if Zim is found not guilty, than the action, or non-action, they took will have been justified.

It has also been reported that the new Police Chief issued a statement saying he stands by their actions, given the information they had at the time. He said the system worked as intended, allowing a special prosecutor to dig deeper and coming in with additional charges is not uncommon. Anyone have a link for this info?

Alan Dershowitz is a very liberal lawyer, he says Corey is way out of line for this arrest. Goes on to say that it is so thin it will end in an acquittal, I hope the evidence is clear one way or another.

Not really.
If a Judge finds probable cause, then probable cause was there from day 1. Saford PD messed this up from day 1.

If he is found not guilty, I am not sure. My anger was really about how this case was never even investigated.

There are enough questions surrounding this case that zim should have been arrested from day 1.

Career suicide or not, a Judge (whose career was not on the line) had to look at the same evidence and agree that there is probable cause for the 2nd Degree Murder Charge.

Really, it couldn't have been about the facts?

Had Corey said that there would not be any charges made against zim, would that call be based on facts of the case?

I am content to wait and see how it plays out, fact is, neither you nor I have all the facts. We have our opinions, based on our biases, experience and gut feelings. Agreed???
