First, allow me to ask you, how long you've been in Christ?
Secondly, they were brethren because they had believed the gospel Paul had preached to them previously , that had saved them when they were buried with Christ and had been regenerated by the Holy Ghost.
Paul was addressing brethren in every epistle he wrote. Yet he often mentioned their conversions, as in this example.

First. A lonnnnnnnnnnng time.
Second. You stated in your previous post .
Do you really believe that a sinner could read I Cor. 15:1-3 and would know what to do to be saved?
Naw.
You're not that dumb........

No. Just like a sinner couldn't read Acts 2:38 and know how to be saved unless he first read verses 1-36. Even then he'd need a teacher. The Ethiopian Eunuch didn't know what he was reading until Philip explained it.
I too have been in Christ a long time. I just celebrated 32 years in Christ. Perhaps you've been a Christian longer than I, but I'm certainly not a novice.
My point about Acts 2:38 is that it is not the gospel. It is the correct response to the gospel. Unless someone has been shown the moral law of God to bring to them the knowledge of sin, then throwing Acts 2:38 will have little effect on them. Apostolics are very weak on this point.

Re: All Trinitarians are Lost!!!!!!!!!!!
Only the Phillipian jailer asked what to do to be saved.
Acts 2:37 says men and brethern, what must we do? Three steppers add the phrase to be saved to the verse to legitimize Acts 2:38 as a response to the gospel. The people were convicted because the were in the group which killed an innocent man.

What shall we do to be what if not saved?

- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

All true. but if the Phillipian jailer hated anyone, then he too was a murderer according to the Bible. Had he ever stolen anything? Had he lusted in his heart making him guilty of adultery? Those men Peter preached to in Acts 2 had not personally killed Jesus, but Peter declared that in God's eyes they were still muderers.
Furthermore, we should take a second look at the question the jailer asked. He was in fear of his PHYSICAL life. He had just seen a miraculous earthquake set two men free. He probably thought they had some supernatural power to cause this. He most likely was not even concerned with his spiritual well being when he asked them what he must do to be saved. He was thinking about self preservation. Paul then turned the conversation from the physical salvation to the spiritual salvation by interjecting Christ into the discussion. But even then, Paul's answer required further clarification because the next verse says.......
Quote:
Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.
|
What was this " word of the Lord" they spoke to him? It was the gospel. They declared unto him that only through submitting to the Lordship of Christ and trusting in his work on the cross could they escape the condemnation of sin. Then the resurrected Jesus would " save them by the washing of rebirth and renewing of the Holy Spirit", as Paul would later tell Titus. Obviously Paul included water baptism in his message concerning how to believe on the Lord Jesus, because verse 33 says....
Quote:
At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized
|
.
So in the final analysis, Paul did not tell the jailer anything different than Ananias had told him at his own conversion, or that Peter had told the crowd in Acts 2.

Exactly.
They weren't asking directions to the local Walmart.
They were convicted at the preaching and wanted an answer for their salvation.

If you do not believe they were asking how to be saved then I would love to hear what you think they were referring to when they asked the question.
