Well not exactly ...God chose the foolish things of the world to confound the proud, boastful, wise, and mighty who consider themselves superior to those who are weak..
which means God does not respect the intelligence of man..and why should he?

He has made the gospel common..that any may receive it , the mighty and proud must humble themselves. because he made it for the common good of all so that some might be saved..

It's not very common at all. Most of the people who have lived since the first century (I'm pretty) sure never heard of it, for their entire lives.

and their stripes are few. but those who heard it and rejected it wish they hadn't ; and those who heard it and mangled it, probably wish they hadn't the most..

Who has mangled it? Do they know they mangled it? Have you mangled it unknowingly?

the proud, high and mighty ; persons puffed up ...Mystery Babylon and her daughters....unfortunately many people.

but in all of this God shows his love for us to whom he is revealed...making us feel so special, but cautioned after seeing so many turn aside through the ignorance that is in them; same as it was in Israel....people trying to make it what they wanted it to be..

God's love for us is so special because we fundamentally love his word..

I believe it boils down to the love for his word and wisdom revealed in it; we sort of make a connection with him in it..my first fascination with his word was John 15:7 ....his promises are just absolutely fascinating..and so easily overlooked...

For the most part, people born in the "wrong" part of the world and/or the wrong time in history are 100% not selected for salvation. It's not 100% saved, though, even in the "right" place and time. I mean, look at me!

Anybody think this is weird?
No, it's quite normal, human perspective. Completely incorrect, but normal. As long as one attempts to translate the Bible into human perspective, they will end up with mush.

Hmm, Augustine mangled it, possibly a model, as he denied the fall/redemption theory he created should be doctrine...

Constantine mangled it, as prophesied "you think to change times, and days."

Obv you are aware of at least one preacher who mangled it...

the Bible warns us that "Kenites became scribes..."

One cannot be lied to when they know a single, unalterable truth; but getting there is usually painful. You are going to have to die, in a sense. "Change your mind" is how it is put, inadequately I think, for today's idiom.
