2. Disney World didn't tell their surrounding neighbors what they were up to either when they began buying property. Chances are that the group just wanted to be left alone but...

3. They weren't. The library stocked one side of the polygamy story and the Eldorado Newspaper did article after article about them and/or related polygamous groups. A judge or justice even took to flying his plane over their property as did others.

4. Politicians got the law changed and some crimes went from misdemeanors to felonies. The age for marriage was raised specifically because of the polygamist in Eldorado. Is that not indicative of discrimatory practices against a particular religion based on their lifestyle?

5. What was lost on Texas and most of America is that the polygamist are people who bleed just like we do; and have children who their whole lives wrap around just like us.

6. A motion by the church attorney specifically says there are two known pregnant girls and one who refused to take the pregnancy test.

These facts by the attorney are not couched in statistics or cloudy confusion. It is forthright and verifiable. Something that most of the statements coming from Texas authorities haven't been.

7. In fact, it is pretty pathetic to look at all the sensationalized allegations made by Texas authorities and trumpeted to the media that now can be shown to have no basis in reality.

8. And yet Texas holds on to all the children even as nine (2%) of the children are hospitalized. However, physical illness likely pales in compariaon to the psychological harm inflicted by the state upon innocent children in their over-reaching.

But of course a Texas judge will be able to sort everything out May 17th. No political pressure there, eh?
Newman,
Are you saying that this group of people, this sect, does NOT practice polygamy?

YES!

What else could they do?

Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...

I just heard on CNN Headline News that this group is going to challenge the state statute regarding sex and minors with the first amendment. The attorney arguing their position is arguing that the state statute is in violation of this groups first amendment rights seeing that this is a religious community and all was done with parental consent. This is going to get crazy.

All I can say is, at least Janet Reno isn't in charge! LOL

There are quite a few religious/First Amendment questions to be sorted through. As much as I am totally sickened by the way the MEN of this cult used their influence for their own personal gain and sexual fulfillment, I can easily see how the precedents set by the state can easily be stretched to include a MUCH wider group.

Of course they practice polygamy! But what has that to do with the tea in China?

You can't trample the Constitution just because you don't care for somebody's religion. Either the people in charge in Texas are stupid beyond imagination OR they went into the flds community knowing full well that they weren't going to find Sarah.

Get real! There is audio tape of a young 16 year old in great distress, allegedly beaten, prior broken bones, has an 8 month old baby and another one on the way and Texas authorities didn't act on it IMMEDIETELY because it was one of their lower priority 3 days to investigate cases?

And yet when they go to the ranch and mysteriously can't find Sarah they do find that all of the children including the young children and nursing babies are in imminent danger because of the belief system that might result in abuse 12 years later?

Huh????

I hear the sound of a train rushing away with parental rights and religous freedom irrevocably diminished if their actions are not nullified. This is a TRAVESTY in TEXAS.

I asked the questions because I don't believe that Polygamy is Biblical. How do you know that God didn't have His hand in this. How do you know that He didn't orchestrate the laws passed against their marrying age, etc.?

Marrying age? Goodness gracious. These young women are old maids by Biblical standards.

LOL! You are probably right. I am sorry that children are involved and the mothers. I'm sorry for the crack babies and children of sexual and verbal abuse. I'm sorry for all children.

The fact is they are a polygamous group and it is against the law here and so are the underage marriages.

I don't consider what they have as "religious" freedom. What they practice is against the word of God and the laws of our state.

Perhaps after a time in court they will allow the polygamy and then people can also start marrying their pets. Where does it stop?

We have to challenge some things and not waive every thing as "freedom".

We are loosing our freedom by our freedom.
