I acknowledge that there are many problems and limitations to the study of psychology, but we must not be blind to the value of an on-going study of human behavior. Can anyone deny, for example, that humanistic psychology's current emphasis on self-esteem and self-acceptance is not forcing the church to clarify the implications and meaning of concepts taught, such as; depravity of man, humility, pride, and self-love in the light of the need for dignity and self-worth? Can one deny that the interpersonal focus of social psycholgy and group psychology has not made a deep impact on our churches in relation to the understanding of "community" and "body life"? Without ignoring the possibilities for abuse and misunderstandings, one would have to admit that psychology is helping the church by forcing it to speak to current issues.
And what about the sermons I have heard, personally, in the past few years regarding things Pastors said they got from God which talk about replacing negative thought behaviors with more positive thought behaviors, in order to change the emotional response to a negative situation, thereby making it a more positive response and getting a more positive behavior? They either didn't get it from God, or the Theory of Cognitive Behaviorism is not a truth. Which is it? Either all truth comes from God or the only truth in the world is contained in the Bible? I choose to believe that God is the author and is in all truth.

Thank-you! My Mom always says, "Your whole life can change within 24 hours." My third interview is scheduled for Friday and only one thing stands between me and it...the W of G.

I hear that.I wonder sometimes if God is hiding the plan.I know people always say the will of God is not secret and its evident but did Joseph know the plan when he was thrown in the pit? Did Jeremiah know the plan when he was in the dungeon eating bread and water? All the stories of success in God and
yadda yadda yadda don't add up to alot when you look at the trials we do go through. It can be very frustrating.

One of the many reasons that Christians hesitate to accept the methods and finding of psychology is based on the assumption that there are inherent conflicts between Chrisitanity and psychology. Likewise, many psychologists steer clear of religious phenomena and concepts because of the perceived superiority of the scientific method of research and combining it with the 'subjectivity' of religion might water the findings down. While there are definite areas of conflict between the two disciplines, the nature and extent of these conflicts are, many times, greatly exaggerated and misunderstood. For this reason many Christians are psychologists work against the process of "integration".
