Re: Your Favorite Seventies Memories?

The seventies were an odd time. I feel kind of like we've entered the seventies again with the recession, distrust of American government. All that we're missing is inflation and side burns.

I hated the music as a teen, but what was good was real good. And I'm talking mid to late decade here. The music of the early seventies was awesome, but I was just a kid. Disco almost drove me to suicide. Jimmy Carter had a similar effect on me.

And then Ronald Reagan... "It's morning in America...!" He gave me hope. I miss that guy. Even when times were bad, and when the music was bad - President Reagan always sounded good, hopeful and upbeat about who we were and made me feel proud to be an American.

One of the greatest times in my life was partying with President Reagan on Manhattan Island in 1986. There were a few other people who showed up too - several million. All of us rockin' round the Statue of Liberty with the WTC Towers blasting out a laser light show and the whole of New York Harbor ablaze in fireworks.

Hank Aaron's 715th Home run, Ali and Frazier, The Bicentennial Freedom Train, the Brady Bunch, the Microwave oven, Pong, The Big Red Machine ‘Cincinnati Reds’. Rick Monday grabbing the American Flag as a father and son tried to start in on fire on April 25th, 1976 at Dodger Stadium. My father dying at 43 in March 78, Elvis dying in Aug 77 at the age of 42. The end of the Vietnam War in 1975. 1972 Israeli Olympic team being taken hostage and ending in a bad outcome. The Iranian hostages (Nov 1979) and their release just as Ronald Reagan became President (Jan 1981) 444 days. Roberto Clemente dying in a plane crash delivering food to the poor. Thurman Munson dying in a plane crash practicing take offs and landings on his day off in Aug 1979. The long lines to wait for Gas. Jimmy Carter talking on all 4 regular TV stations night after night to talk about the S.A.L.T 2 treaty. Getting saved in May 1976 in Ft. Worth Texas, that was a great night! The Trans Am with the Eagle hood, my brother had a Firebird Formula Trans AM, he was cool! Albums and albums of sappy hippy rock. The Beetle Bug, the Datsun 280z, Archie Bunker, and Rocky. No cell phones, no home computers, no direct deposit of your paycheck, no debit cards, no money machines………
