in the discussion section about Islam he didn't even read my quoted commentaries, and then accused me of thinking my own thoughts are better than any others as if I avoided the very things I quoted!!

You can't. The bible is silent on this matter. Probably why women in christianity were squashed for 2000 years until feminists, not "godly christians", started working to very recently procure rights and protections for them.
At any rate this passage in the Quran and its meaning have been discussed ad nauseum since Hadith were collected. Below is one such discussion.
The varying meanings of the word translated to "beat" or "strike" are numerous.
Pick the one you like.
In context, since the next step in the disagreement process is to select mediators from both sides to help the couple reconcile, the correct meaning is probably to put away or turn away / separate.

Come on, anyone still believes this joker is a Muslim sitting under a date tree in the desert? Islam makes their females wear everything from hoods to body bag with a screen slit to see through. He is still wanting to make arguments based on comparing religion to religion? Muslims who are really Muslims don't do this. Atheists take the route of comparing religion with religion.
