"born again" now there is a loaded phrase, that has become meaningless in the repetition, imo. This unfortunately now translates into saying some words in a church, and attempting to accept Christ by mouth. This amounts to mocking God, i think.

yes yes, let's all bow to the definition of those verses that we have been given, and exclude anyone who interprets them differently, by all means. It is the Christian way, after all.

ok, repentance includes "penance," so I'll pass from jump street, ty, not following the RCC there; i don't do Easter, either, tyvm. So, we're done; your premise is twisted, and nothing good can proceed from it. Repent is a horrible, enslaving interpretation there, and we have not gotten past the first word.
i found a much better translation, and i suggest you question yours.

John, Jesus, Peter, Paul preached repentance. I am in good company. Repentance and penance is not the same.
