For your information the host of each program let KFOR TV of OK city do the reporting until late in the afternoon.

And yes, Gov. Fallin DID put in a request for federal disaster relief for the affected counties. It doesn't matter who called who first; it would have been done regardless--it's standard protocol to free up channels so affected individuals can have access to federal assistance if they so choose.

You did, in fact, lie about the Republicans "needlessly" killing children. That was a disgusting, partisan lie.
The jury is still out on your second claim. "The first thing" the Gov did was ask for money. You cannot claim this as fact. Here's what we DO know.
We know that Monday afternoon, Obama called the Governor and offered assistance and promised Fed resources.
From the White House release:
Quote:
This evening the President spoke with Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin to express his concern for those who have been affected by the severe weather beginning last night and continuing today. While information is still coming in, the President made clear that his Administration, through FEMA, stands ready to provide all available assistance as the Governor’s team responds to the storm and that he has directed his team to ensure that they are providing available resources as the response unfolds. FEMA has deployed an Incident Management Assistance Team to the state emergency operations center in Oklahoma City to support state and local officials on the ground and additional personnel and resources stand ready to be dispatched as necessary. The President told Governor Fallin that the people of Oklahoma are in his and the First Lady’s thoughts and prayers and, while his team will continue to keep him updated, he urged her to be in touch directly if there were additional resources the Administration could provide.

In one of my previous posts, I quoted a WH aide:
Quote:
President Obama called Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin on Monday evening to offer federal support for the communities hit by a devastating tornado, the White House said in a statement.
|
LINK
We also had a statement from Gov Fallin:
Quote:
"We very much appreciate the support and quick action of President Obama in approving Oklahoma's request for federal disaster assistance in the wake of today's devastating storms," Governor Fallin said.
|
LINK
And we have this news release:
Quote:
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin announced Tuesday morning that the White House has approved the state's request for disaster assistance for five Oklahoma Counties hit by this week's deadly tornadoes.
|
LINK
Do you know how this works, Light? On Monday, the President called the Governor and pledged Fed support - we know this because the WH has the readout. Now, in order to get the funds, the Oklahoma Governor has to submit a request for assistance, which is then approved by the government. That's how the government works.
Your claim that "the first thing" she did was ask for assistance is (at best) misleading. You have now way to know what she did, and as the statements and fact prove, the President called first.
Still waiting for an apology on the first part of your statement, claiming Republicans "needlessly" killed children. Or do you continue stand by the now-proven lie and disgusting claim?

Sure there are houses that have still not been touched, but we have always had blighted houses in this city, so that's no different than before. There are a whole lot more vacant lots. There are some who have not gotten a dime from any insurance whatsoever -- homeowners or flood. Others have not gotten enough to rebuild, even with assistance they have received. Some have been ripped off by contractor scam artists. Yet there are many more who have moved on and rebuilt their homes and their lives.
It's a mixed bag, but what can one expect for such a large area with a dense population that was impacted by a widespread hurricane coupled with the failings of the Army Corp of Engineers that created mass flooding.

Ignorant statement? LOL
I've known MANY who have gone there to help over the years, the last being about two years ago and he said he would NOT go again and in fact regretted he had gone that time. He worked on a house and the "owner" was sitting on his front porch when he arrived. The "owner" left when the work started and came back to "his" house on the afternoon they were departing. Apparently there is a reason it is called The Big Easy. This was not an uncommon situation by any means. Now I know the greater downtown area cleaned up pretty quickly, but the crying that continued for YEARS got downright nauseating. Question: When the last time you heard any gripes coming out of Joplin, MO? Shoot, Oklahoma JUST happened and all I hear are people thinking God. Next year at this time there probably won't be any visible scars of what happened a few days ago.

Re: Devastating Tornado Slams Oklahoma
My neighbor called today and said her brother is still missing. Her son and her plan to go tomorrow and see if they can find him.

I think this is pretty harsh. It is a fact that some states and local governments (and people) respond better to disasters than others. It's also a fact that New Orleans residents and local government officials didn't cast themselves in a very attractive light after Hurricane Katrina, and that's putting it mildly. Looting, major government-blaming, etc., played into putting a pretty negative image out there. Despite the obvious pain and suffering, it was a big turn off to many American people--especially considering that other areas suffered major loss from the exact same storm and were more civilized, composed and dignified in their response to it and to one another.
I thought that SOME of the New Orleans people behaved abominably, and unfortunately their responses and behavior got a lot of airtime.
Additionally, in some poverty stricken areas where people are accustomed to the government meeting their every need, they of course turn to the government to assist them in a crisis instead of turning to neighbors and their own local resources. While it might not be a fair blanket statement, it does make those people look less self-reliant and more like they just have a hand out for freebies.

Not just ignorant, but idiotic. You made a vast sweeping generalization about an entire city and it seems to be based on your friend's experience. You have not even shared with us where the man went when he left his porch.
I know way more people who cleaned up their own homes, fought their own insurance companies and pinched their pennies to rebuild.
If you don't like New Orleans or the people here that's fine, but don't make up lies saying all the people around here are just sitting around on porches waiting for the government to clean up and then compare what happened here with tornado situations. It's nowhere near the ballpark of the same.

I've never been to New Orleans, Apostolic Kitty, and I'm sure the people you know have done what you said they did. However, what was portrayed on the media was a group of people demanding that the government do something to get them out of the mess they were in. I can't say I've heard the same kind of rhetoric coming from anywhere else in the nation after a tragedy, as much as the nation heard coming from New Orleans. That's all.
A sweeping generalization is never fair to those to whom it doesn't apply, of course. There are always exceptions to every rule.
