Re: Apology
Good grief - the whole thing comes down to modesty, not sleeve or hem length. I have my limits personally, and we definitely have regulations for people in ministry positions on any given service time. But to say short sleeves reveal a woman's breasts???? That's just hilarious. If I had on a pair of short sleeves that were loose enough to see up them, I would wear a cami underneath. It's pretty easy. You either want people to see your "under-parts" or you don't. I DON'T. Therefore I dress modestly.
(By the way, I dare you to say you can see anything ungodly in the avatar picture here.) Short sleeves that fit my arm - no peeking inside the shirt possible.)
And for the record, I've seen women at General Conference wearing stuff so tight, I would be embarrassed to be seen in it and it was considered "holy". Go figure.

Re: Apology
How incredibly irritating this thread has become! It is ashame when there can be 6pgs, most of which are arguments either for or against sleeve length and hem length..good grief! This is just ridiculous, and that is not including the remark about a delusion...the more I have lived in OP I can't help but think that alot of us have an extemely distorted view of God.
Listening to some folks, you would think that God is this supernatural bully who enjoys destroying lives and watching them squirm...no wonder alot of our churches never grow, who wants to be beaten down and judged...especially over sleeves...ugh!
I heard it said in the UPC that our "Dress Standards" are not UPC culture but Biblical culture...where did they come up with that?? It sure did'nt come from scripture.

Jay...where is the scripture, in the New Testament, that BANS jewelry? And would you please list, from the New Testament, (as you said,) the scriptures that define modesty. The "most modesty women," according to your definitions of modesty, would surely have to be the muslim women! And I believe that you said in another post that we had to not look like the world in "all things." Now if you are a male, and I'm judging by your name that you are, please tell me how you look different from the other males walking down the street. The truth is, in most cases, you look just like the biggest MALE SINNER on the street. You better make some changes if you don't want to look like the MALE SINNER!
I just took out the last paragraph I wrote on this post! If you read it forgive me for being too blunt. If you didn't read it you'll just have to guess!

Re: Apology
The world is lost and bound by the devil and Christians argue over sleeve length.
The teaches modesty for both men and women, and how many NT.scriptures mention clothing ? So I gather the NT. church made it sermon topics,I gather.
Whatever happened to preaching the gospel to lost, preaching deliverance to those who are demonized and seeing the sick healed ?

Well...well...well...maybe if the guy seen some skin on his own wife he wouldn't be looking at other women on the net?
In all my years in the OP church, I've noticed that the men who leave their wives always go for the chicks who cut their hair, wear makeup and jewelry and wear pants. Why is that?

You got that right Brother Scott. There are so many other issues plaguing this planet that sleeve and hem length seem so trivial.

I hope that doesn't sound mean - I didn't intend for it to.

Intresting......"chicks who cut their hair, wear makeup, and pants"..... I'm glad most women that are holding up on to holiness are not acting like those harlots............ By your observation it seems like it would be a good idea for wives not to cut their hair, wear makup or pants... There must be a spirit or something attached to that stuff....
