Are you saying they hire just as many people when their profit margins are reduced? You know better than that. When the rich close their purses the economy hurts. You may not like that they have a purse with a lot of money in it but that's the way it is.
JD why don't you quit worrying about the rich and just get out there and work hard and get rich yourself. That way the government could tax you more.
I don't like more taxes.... but I'm sure glad I've made more to be taxed on. I want to pay more taxes, not because the rate has been increased but because I have made more money.

However, I see a problem-- would that mean that the working welfare receipients would then become employees by their state governments?

(1) Profit margins? We're talking about taxes and I don't think that their taxes would eat that much into their profits.
For the purpose of this discussion, I think the threshold should not be $250k, but $500k. For the smaller business owners who make less than $500k, maybe the taxation could cut into their profits significantly... maybe I am not sure.
(2) I am glad for anyone who is doing well in this time of financial trouble. I am not jealous neither do I dislike the wealthy. My opinions do not stem from an envious heart-- this is an ASSUMPTION that many make about the person that thinks that the wealthy should be taxed.
Just because I don't think they need help from the government means that I want them to fail. THIS is the crux of my argument. There are people who NEED help and then there are folks who don't. Financially speaking, the wealthy do not need any help form the government.
(3) You weren't trying to make that personal, so I own't make it so.
(4) That's how I would feel about it if I was making $500K annually-- I doubt sincerely that I would be balking at tax bonuses expiring at a time where our nation could use the revenue. After all, it's my God who provided the riches and my nation that God used as the plattform for my blessings. Why not support the nation that helped me get where I am.

You and I both know that this scenario is impossible to come about.
If some welfare mother is injured while picking up trash or mowing the lawn, her employer should have to shoulder that responsibility.
Maybe it would be better to not force work, but force education or training of some sort on the welfare receipients so that after a predetermined time, they become employable and self-sustaining.

JD I think this is where you're looking at it wrong. It's not the wealthy that's getting help from the government, but the government that's getting help from the wealthy.
Could it be possible that the wealthy simply say, "I'm tired of having to help the government so much more than the rest of society, so I'll just stop making more, so I won't have to give so much to my favorite uncle, "Uncle Sam!"
Or, let's look at it this way. JD, I'm your employer, and I suddenly inform you that I need you to help me! And the way you're going to help me is instead of $10.00 an hour I'm only going to pay you $8.00 an hour! You see, I'm helping you because you won't have to pay as much in taxes and and you're helping me, as I will have more of my money to keep and maybe hire someone else!
If we keep this up we'll solve all of America's problems!
