For me, the final straw was his ESPN thing and what he said about Donavan McNabb. Inexcusable and strictly for shock value. I'll never forget Tom Jackson's face. That said it all!
I felt very bad for Rush when I saw that video. Going for the "shock" and trying to "shake things up" isn't the style that they were looking for at ESPN and in sports reporting in general.
That's why Olbermann was burning up on the inside and needed to take his act to an "advocacy anchor" type show.
LOL! I wouldnt take them if he did! but really when you consider his income level, his losses were in line.
Second the only reason we heard about that was because liberals trotted out the Saul Alinsky attack book and tried to distroy him personally.

Losing MILLIONS gambling was "In line"??? Are you serious? Losing millions while preaching at America about his superior values was in line? It seems like conservatives gave him a pass mostly, while continuing to hack on Bill Clinton.

I agree. Rush is a gifted commentator and had added a lot to that show. He didn't need to say that to get attention. He already had it. For someone SO smart, I couldn't believe he would do something so unwise.
Speaking of reading the notes, that's my whole problem with all these guys and it's why I tend to prefer guys like Bill O'Reilly. Hannity, Limbaugh and others seem to always be playing by the Conservative Playbook and they just spew the conservative party line no matter what.
For example, what Trent Lott said about Strom Thurmond was HORRIBLE!!!! WAY out of bounds. But sure enough, there was NO WAY these guys were going to criticize a conservative so they all spewed the same excuses for him.
Why couldn't they just man up and say, "One of our guys was WRONG!!"? I don't understand that.
I agree about Bill O. I do like him. I get more of a "middle' perspective from him.

It was not millions. it was some tens of thousands.
Second he is catholic. there is no catholic moral prohibition on gambling.
He never jepordized his family with his gambling.

No way. Strom Thurmond's campaign....look it up....was about one thing and one thing ONLY. Segregation. Keeping blacks away from whites. It was his ONLY issue in the campaign.
And Trent Lott said, "Things would have turned out much better if Senator Thurmond had been elected president. There's only one thing that could have meant. I can't see it any other way.
Only one republican, that was publicized anyway, came out and spoke harshly against it.....President Bush.

Bill O. does great television. When his "magazine" format first appeared several years ago it was such a welcome change to the otherwise dry formats that had preceded him. Whether you agree with him or not or whether you like his personality or not - you have to admit that the guy understands television and is a great mind when it comes to formatting and presenting his ideas.
Except that I don't think Rush ever said being an elected official was "easy." He does have "loose cannon tendencies" but I think that's a trait that helps these guys to be successful in this business. (I haven't listened in years because I suffer from a similar hearing disorder that Limbaugh has).
Try this: Look up those "preachers in the making" from your old dorm. Do those who have "successful" and busy preaching schedules have anything in common? (Like maybe the same "loose cannon tendencies" as Rush?).
actually had a pretty good class of peers. for the most part...those that are still "successful"(not exactly sure what that is)...are so because they refrain from those "Rush-like" tendencies...things like being a judgmental blow-hard, racism, & drug addiction.
