You could always represent yourself as the RIAA and send a letter to his/her (but probably 'his') ISP demanding his personal info do to the proof of illegal music downloading.

An IP Address is just a set of numbers that identifies your internet account.
Something like this:
180.90.000.1
Admins can put that number in an IP tool or tracker and it will give them the city and state, or even the country if it's foreign based. It also tells you the name of your internet provider.
Some forums (Maybe All actually) can block your IP and then you have to get a new IP to see the forum. I used to be a forum junkie but I had to give them all up. (*Cough*)
You can make a free forum just to see how it works then delete it or whatever, it's kinda neat actually.

Technically, it displays the address of your current connection, not your account. The difference being that most people get a dynamic ip address assigned to them each time they (or their router) connects to the internet. So, from day to day, its not unusual for your ip address to vary.

Re: Other Forums
If someone is not an admin of a forum, but want to see if something I posted elsewhere on the net is the same person, can someone do that too?
I always wondered how the "spys" at my old church could print out people's posts for church gatherings and say this is so and so's post, even though it says anonymous. Once they mentioned it was because it has the same IP addy or something like that.
I just hate the idea that they may already be reading my stuff, and humiliating my family by trying to convince people it is proof I am an enemy of God and going to hell. I always felt sorry for family members having to go through services where their brothers, husbands etc. were being used as examples to keep people in bondage.

Don't you think they are probably already doing that anyway? Just because you've changed your lifestyle?

I think they are just taking lucky guesses!

Yes, but they love "printed proof" for dramatic services. I am not considered an enemy by changing my lifestyle, that just sends me to hell. (Who cares that Christ shed his blood, we must wear special clothing and hair neatly bound to make it to heaven. Oh and never leave their body of believers.)
See, even what I wrote above. Even though I don't reveal where I went, I am writing about them. THAT makes me an enemy. If they prove it is me, then they get to humiliate my family still there.
