When I hear the term "mothership" I think of the comment made by Bro. Wynn Stairs in the 1970's when he and E.P Wickens declined to remain in the UPC. Someone said that they were "abandoning the ship of salvation." Bro. Stairs remarked, "Ridiculous! We just left the toilet and went up on deck to get some fresh air."
Bet that didn't go over too well with some!

Some people do not do well outside an organization that is why new ones are formed...a sense of surroundings however I personally do better outside an organization for I like the freedom to choose my friends and fellowship...
Yeah...I know I am just a rebellous missionary...ha....

I do see people do a lot better spiritually that stand on their own two feet however I have hyjacked the thread...ha..it is about Steve...
I don't agree with him however I will always love the Munsey family for their kindness to my brother in law and sister in law many, many years ago. I still keep up with his parents. They sent me a book Phil wrote and it was interesting.

Sister, repent of that dangerous and rebellious Jezebel spirit before you perish without hope!!!
Too true. Many 'formers' are still having trouble with their decision and only thing they can do is bad mouth the mothership.
Very true. There are plenty of things to talk about and I do at times (and always get called "bitter" when I do) and I think there's much to learn from the past. But when one's personality is dominated by their angst for the UPC, it gets very old.
My main problem with a lot of ex-upers is usually two-fold: 1) They're just UPC without a dress code and every bit as legalistic as they once were, or 2) Completely off the deep end, for example, Steve Munsey. Well, he had already dived in long before he left, I believe.
Ironically, my major fear of leaving for so long was the example of so many who had left. They freaked me out.

Of course, some who jumped ship have dived off the starboard side, rather than port, if you get my meaning!

Very good words of wisdom.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
