The example used was used because most of our illegal immigrants are coming from south of the border.
If we were dealing with an influx of immigrants from England, Danny-Boy would probably have been used.
So attack the government that allows them to stay here - don't attack them. They're not coming to rob and steal from you, they're coming to feed their family and there are no jobs where they come from.
Some of you (don't know about you specifically) view every "foreigner" so suspiciously that you don't even bother to try to witness to them - they're just this "other" group that isn't to be touched. It's like they aren't human.
There are a thousand ways the US government could make illegals leave if they wanted - they just don't want them to.
Go enjoy your chicken dumplings and turnip greens now - I'm sure you're proud of yourself...you made fun of a Mexican today.
But it is generally understood that the U.S. is an English-speaking country.
A lot of French people speak English, but if I moved to France I'd still learn to speak French. It's the common language of France.
It all depends on family I guess. My Czech great grandmother was born in Texas but spoke Czech growing up and didn't learn english until she was an adult. My Italian grandfather wasn't allowed to speak anything but English growing up in NYC.
I think it is better to learn english, just for ease of operating in our society.

That is dead on. The topic makes for swell political speeches, but the truth is making all the undocumented workers just go away would be an economic catastrophe.

No joke. "Taxpayer ID number" - code for "I'm illegal." All these students enrolled that mysteriously don't have Social Security numbers? Illegal. We were instructed when I worked in Texas just to say "ok." We even had a separate numbering system for them
The government wants them in the US. We should throw them a party

Yep. Truth is they are a part of the labor pool and as such they are a resource.
If they weren't doing those jobs, then those jobs quite possibly wouldn't get done. Would love to here Bob Politico explain to Frank Suburbia why his half gallon of orange juice now costs $8.00 and that quote for the stone walkway just went up by $6000.00.
Somethings you probably just want to leave alone. When I worked construction in Texas in the late 70's early 80's everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE turned a blind eye to it.
I even know one group of stone masons who called immigration on themselves (somebody's wedding back in Mexico). Within two weeks they were all back in TX and back on the job. I still get a chuckle thinking about that.
