The young couples used to buy a starter home. Now they have starter marriages.

What God hath joined, let no man tear asunder.

Re: Obama czar: Abolish marriage!?

Marriage isn't the domain of government in my opinion. It should be a private contract between consenting adults. As stated by Sunworthy, it's not the marriage license that keeps us faithful to our spouses. Interestingly, the more government has gotten involved with marriage the more we've seen problems with marriage.

A marriage license isn't necessary. The key is legal obligation. This can be performed by private contract. We might not always like the choices people make... but that's simply the result of freedom and privacy.

God is not affected by marriage licenses. Two people making a vow to be faithfull to each other is a marriage. God does not require the state's assistance (or even a pastor) to be a part of a marriage vow.

Yes that is correct. All a couple has to do is agree to live as a married couple and they are married. If they have property and they decide to call it quits they have to get a divorce from the courts.

So if they aren't living together, they aren't married? Uriah wasn't married to Bethsheba?

Was it Isaac or Jacob that took his wife into his mothers tent (boom chika-wo wow) and they were married.

Doesn't sound like they had licenses, ceremonies, legal contracts or anythign else. LOL.

21And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

22And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

23And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.

The dad or brothers give a bride in marriage. Betrothed is a commitment also.. They had different steps than we have.

Then jacob got to "KNOW" his wife.

It wasn't Jacob I was talking about then. If I recall correctly, the verse in question says nothing of anything other than the man taking her into his mothers tent and them being married.

Gen.24:67

And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

Re: Obama czar: Abolish marriage!?

I think the bottom line on this issue is that for the child of God a piece of paper makes no difference in their view of marriage. To the world it is just a piece of paper; and has to do with taxes and benefits. God is not interested in a piece of paper, he is concerned about what's in your heart. Just as the enemy has hijacked the rainbow a symbol of God's vow; the enemy now wants to rid this country of the word "marriage". When you hear the word marriage, you know that it stands for something. You think of what God has intended, as it is a biblical term. On another point: I find it quite interesting how many yell that there is the separation of church and state. Yet, on the issue of marriage the lines have seemingly become blurred.
