As I said, I believe this is taken out of context, but he is good man and I won't hold this over his head. I'm sure, very sure, we can disagree with a good many authors on various topics and issues.
I guess here, it's his turn to be bashed.

Why would he think Jesus would "assume" anything when He knows the end from the beginning. That is a very lame excuse. IMO

What is your opinion of a great writer?

That said, I thinkhe is a good writer. Not great, and not always the most honest or thorough, but good.

Someone recommended that I should read one of Yancey's books - The Jesus I never Knew,
I got bored with it about a quarter of the way through and will probably never read anything else by him.
On the Lottery/Gambling - Let's see what others have to say. Let's take John MacArthur's view:

Is gambling wrong?
John MacArthur
Builds on irresponsible stewardship. The worst possible stewardship is for someone to throw God's resources away at the altar of a god called chance or luck. It's idolatry of the worst sort. Nothing we have really belongs to us; it belongs to God, and we should use all of it to His glory (Matt. 6:19-20).

Guess that is not only Bernard's view......

I can only guess that he's using the idea of "changing". That if your hair is white, dying it black doesn't make it black, which is true, but I wouldn't use that scripture to prove my point.
On that subject - this is funny - we were attending a function at another church and a lady had put coloring in her hair. She was perspiring during the service and black dye was dripping down her face!

I am glad DB is our new GS.
I still don't like the books I have read by him, but I now realize the books I am familiar with were written over 20 years ago.
Besides, he's written several, I've written none.
Maybe one day I'll write a book on the Gospel and Biblical Doctrines and let someone talk about how much they like or don't like my work.

Very humble of you, Jermyn. That's what I like about you!!

I think playing the stocks is just as much a gamble, especially these days.
