The constant desire to find ways to expel people from the kingdom instead of gathering them into it. This is offensive to God, and reeks in His nostrils.

I guess I would add...
either extreme was seeking occassion to gather converts (men) as disciples unto themselves rather than disciples of Christ.

Steadfast
"My dear friends on AFF... It's blatant deception to think that laying down biblical absolutes will never destroy the soul."
What are the biblical absolutes you refer to here?
I do agree with what you said. But I think this is where the difference may lie.
Also, I started a thread this week about what did Jesus mean when He said, blessed is he who is poor in spirit. Or another way of saying it, blessed is he that has an humble spirit.
IF we would obey the first thing Jesus address in the sermon on the mount, and IF we ALL had truly had a humble spirit, I sincerely doubt any of the things you mentioned would be an issue.

How in the world did you read that into my statements?
I am saying that the freakycon brand of "holiness" is not really holiness at all - it's pride. And pride is not necessary for salvation, in fact - it hinders the work of God.

Coonskinner, you talked about being a separate people and gave many scriptures to confirm that.
I agree with you about being a separate people. What I don't agree with is those who think the outward appearance is who we are to be separate.
Jesus never mentioned a thing that I can recall about how folks dressed.
However, what HE did define was about our attitudes. Being humble, now that would set us apart, even among ourselves.
Turning the other cheek, now that would set us apart. Who among us is good at doing this? Not I.
I could go on, but I think you get my drift.

I get so sick and tired of the so called "cautionary" tales about those who leave the precious legalism of this brand of Apostolics. You guys trot out every extreme example of woe and death you can find every time someone turns on a television or GOD FORBID goes to a ball game.
It's like the flippin' abomination of desolation. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.
