There is NOTHING wrong with dressing up. If someone wants to go casual, there's nothing wrong with that either.

Some kids enjoy it, some don't. I say let them dress up if they want to (camp or anywhere), and if they don't, let them wear neat, clean casual clothes.

By the way, bankers aren't the only sharp dressers. My son dresses like his Daddy. And my girls dress like their mother. And grandmother. And aunts.

I seem to recall that the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 clothed her family in fine clothing.
I think the original post was more about dressing up when casual would be more appropriate, such as camp. And yes, I do remember camp services back in Wisconsin where people dressed to the hilt, aka, the "Red Carpet" of pentecost.

I get confused with Magnum PI quite often at church. I don't know if it is the Hawaiian shirts, the Ferrari, or taking off in TC's chopper in the parking lot.....

I taught midweek Bible Study at our church in shorts, a tee shirt and sandals during the summer months last year.

Re: Do Your Kids Dress Like Bankers?

I love dressing up for church. But for camp I don't think kids need to dress up. But when we are in God's house, remember we are in the presence of The KING. Our inside is more important than the outside, but still........

Re: Do Your Kids Dress Like Bankers?

My son is 20 and doesn't own a suit. He is comfortable in his jeans and casual shirts and I'm find with that. If he ever has to have a suit for a job or an interview, then he'll get one, I'm sure. But for church? If he's more comfortable in casual clothes, then that's how he should go! Besides, he'd be out of place dressed up like that at our church.

That word implies some disappointment if someone else doesn't comply with the "expectation." I really don't think the majority of people care one way or the other. Let those who want to dress up do it happily, and those who want to be casual--be happily casual.

If someone is disappointed in others because they don't dress up--well, I agree--that's fruity. (I'm assuming "fruity" means silly. )

Re: Do Your Kids Dress Like Bankers?

The last two years I've taken my girls to Holiday Youth Convention. Usually we always have other kids from school with us. Two years ago, my daughter's boyfriend interest at that time (my boss' son) went with us. He made the comment that everyone looked like they were going to the prom or something... yep... they do all right.

Then this past December, two girlfriends from school came with us. I got a hotel room downtown. The girls from school got dressed in their nicest clothes and everyone fixed hair better than normal. I thought they all looked nice.

I stood back and watched as those girls became uncomfortable as they watched the fashion show displayed before them. They felt out of place in their more casual clothing (although they did wear nice skirts and tops). They were astonished at elaborate hair styles... clothes that were outrageous even on the guys...they kept making comments about their clothes not being nice enough. It was one of the first times I saw through the eyes of a visitor.... and I was ashamed at what we call religion.

There is nothing worse than putting someone into a situation where they stick out like sore thumbs... We ended up leaving early when after searching for seats and unable to find one... and so tired of standing.

Personally I am so over all the dress clothes stuff...
