38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Is this any different than what bishoph said? If your wife was hit, would you turn her cheek for her so the perp could hit it again?
While Alvin York was talking about his fellow soldiers the same could be doubly said if talking about your family.

Well I'm as much agin' killin' as ever, sir. But it was this way, Colonel. When I started out, I felt just like you said, but when I hear them machine guns a-goin', and all them fellas are droppin' around me... I figured them guns was killin' hundreds, maybe thousands, and there weren't nothin' anybody could do, but to stop them guns. And that's what I done.

We were just discussing this very thing in staff meeting this week, and I found out that we have several gun-toting men at church that I didn't even know about. They are "unofficial" security, I guess. LOL
Isn't it strange how so many will fight to the death over standards (both pro and con) but not obey something Jesus Himself commanded. We are like lambs to the slaughter. Being a Christian has cost untold numbers of people their lives. Many under persecution answered not again their accusers, their families paid a dear price.
I believe that when you're sold out to Christ... violence isn't an option. I wanted a gun for home defense when I was married. My wife was a Christian. She gave me a two hour lecture on being a Christian and counting the cost. She told me that she didn't want me to kill to protect her, she was a Christian and prepared to die in obedience if necessary. So, I didn't buy the gun. We decided to trust G-O-D and not the G-U-N.

Really...Defending you family from someone who comes in to steal, molest or destroy is not dying as a result of persecution.
Bottomline: Like I told one of my daughters friends who was staying overnight. I hear a scream in the night and it will be met by a armed response. I have no issue sending someone to meet their maker if they are threatening my family. If that means I'm not trusting God , so be it.

Scenario 1: You meet an intruder in your home, perceive (correctly, in this scenario) that he is a serious threat to your family. You shoot him and kill him.
Scenario 2: You meet an intruder in your home, perceive (correctly, in this scenario also) that he is a serious threat to your family. You try to talk him out of harming anyone, but he kills you all.
In both scenarios, everyone in your family is saved and the intruder is not. What are the eternal consequences of each scenario?

Yes, I doubt anyone planning a robbery or home invasion is targeting a particular family because their Christians. Now that MAY start happening at some point in the future but I don't see it now. Thus, no persecution involved, just violence.
And I have no problems with someone allowing themselves to be harmed by an intruder -turning the other cheek so to speak, but to allow their wife or children to be harmed reeks of cowardliness. In such a situation praying to God to protect your family -and not doing anything yourself is like the guy on the roof praying to God to save him from the flood and turning away the guy who appears in the boat because you think GOD will save you, not him.

Ever see the movie Law Abiding Citizen? Scenario 2 reminds me of that, except the husband was the lone survivor in that case.
