I'm going to start another thread on Bro. Stoneking's sermon!

Contmeporary Pentecost is heading this direction entertainment oriented instead of worship. The last one I went to I have no desire to go back. It is like you go home and some else is living in the house.

Re: TN campmeeting
We attended in 2002 in Jackson, Tn.
The services were great.
We talked about going back this year ( but we are a little far away), I am glad we didn't go after hearing the report from Pianoman.

Sorry that I missed this earlier, St. Mark!
I am still "old school", so the Hammond Organ and keyboard driven music from the 70's and 80's is what I'm most comfortable with. The problem is that my kids and their friends don't care for MY style of music.
The style of music presented does cater to the younger generation, which shows that the UPCI in Tennessee is alive and well! I'm just accepting that changes in music styles is a natural progression with different generations. After all, the old folks didn't care for our style of music when it first came out either!
As far as standards go, it was a typical conservative holiness crowd. Most all the women wore dresses and had their hair fixed up.
I must say that seemed to be the largest crowd ever for Tennessee campmeeting. I would say there were between 3 and 4 thousand people in attendance. The place was packed!

You know what is odd to me? In the Black community, the youth
still love hammond organ, choirs, foot stompin' church. It's mostly
in our white churches that it's being done away with.
It was predicted that when the UPC had a split, it would dwindle
to nothing. to my surprise, the conferences I have attended here
in CA. have been packed as well

That surprises me about CA, but I'm not aware of any Tennessee churches leaving.

He preached about the power in the name of Jesus, and told about Dr. C.P. Thomas which I started a thread about!

I didn't realize that the organ and choirs were considered "old school"! I always thought that was just "church".
I guess my preference would be the old school style. I don't have a problem with these newer songs...they have some nice lyrics...but they just don't do it for me. Not saying I can't worship to these songs......It's just that it seems that I am looking for more "anointing" than nice lyrics...

Was that it for the singing...the 2 choir songs? Wow! Worship service always seemed like the one of the most important aspects of church...
What are the traditional pentecostal campmeeting songs? I am sure I'll know them when I hear them but I can't think of the songs you are referring to right now...
As far the choreography goes.....I'm not sure I care for it too much...Especially during service. I think I would be more comfy with it during a talent show or something like that, but it doesn't seem like worship to me...But then again, I've only seen it a few times and that was just the feeling I got from it. It seemed more like "entertainment" for the crowd. I don't have a problem entertainment....just not during a service.
I can see the "pep rally" part. I think at most campmeetings you will find that "super charged" atmosphere... it's alright as long as people walk away with substance from the Word of God and not just a high that will eventual drop....
NO ORGAN? what's up with that?
