Bro. obviously the gifts and fruits take time to grow and mature. But they are evidences. Tongues are a sign to the unbeliever as a 'Witness'. Bishop Jakes preached a great message on this, I have the DVD. It is called the the 'Witness.' The initial evidence of the HG coming into a person is change though it is not always detected because it is not the intitial verbal sign. Everytime in scripture you see the HG outpoured you also see tongues, but you also see first the acceptance of Jesus and then the change. Is is Newtons law. Nothing happens with out and equal or opposite reaction. HG coming into a person happens and things change. There are evidences that are apparent at first sucha s tongues but tongues can not come forth without first having a change inside.

Here we go.
This means that IF you decide that you MAY want to be baptized, it's a good idea to do so "in Jesus Name." This may mean that nothing is said over you at all. Just that everybody somehow knows whose name is being proclaimed.
Of course, it doesn't really matter anyway (according to Daniel) because baptism is just a Christian rite, and not part of the New Birth experience.

just like the first UPCI General Supt. Howard Goss ... who believe we are saved and regenerated at the point of faith/repentance ... then we obey his command of baptism in His name and seek the empowerment of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
We believe we are baptized because we are saved ... as a witness of the Gospel in our lives ... not to cause regeneration

Sir ... we are not discussing role of baptism in the life of the believer in this thread but rather the statements shared ... which you don't believe ... and I do.
Keep your eye on the ball.

No, you don't believe them.
Not all of them anyway.
But that's cool.
This is a nice informational thread.
We're getting somewhere.

Then why the debate here? The AFF statement says tongues is the initial evidence ... not that it's the only evidence. To everyone around, tongues is the initial evidence of the infilling of the HG. No one can see the inward acceptance of Christ without the outward manifestation and sign of tongues.
Now had the statement been that tongues is the ONLY evidence of a person being spirit-filled, I would disagree also ... but there's the key word "initial."

I would hardly go so far as to claim you are a "PCIer." From everything I have heard of them, they preached Jesus name baptism as hard as anyone else. None of this "it's optional" nonsense that you believe.
