That comment wasn't directed at you, but now I'll address you. My beef isn't with art work, nor do I mind puppets for the kiddies either!

I understand the goal is winning souls, but how far should we go to win them?

Should I have an occasional beer with a sinner to reach them, or should I hang out at strip bars and testify God's goodness?

Should I call a famous rappers to perform at church so I can draw the youth, and then hit them with the gospel?

How far should I go?

When I read the bible's text, I see men of old full of boldness preaching on streets and in prisons, and not once did they utilize worldly attractions.

Paul said his speech and preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.

It was the power of the Holy Ghost drew and saved crowds, not fancy words, lights, or concerts. Shouldn't we utilize the bible as an example?

Society has pulled away from biblical example and has implemented their own method. Churches are starting to substitute prayer, gifts of the spirit, bible teachings, by introducing certain attractions, and this ought not to be so.

But, I would understand if these churches lack anointing, biblical teaching, Holy Ghost, commitment, etc. I mean, all they would have is color lights and rock concerts to draw people. This is the same method rock bands use to recruit people, there's no difference.

I think I understand what you are saying however we must look at each situation...No, I do not and would not even think of some beer drinking famous rappers at my church...never...let me be buried first BUT to liken say lights or smoke to a bar room is not just.
Young people will be young people...My son Raul Jr (only blood son) has been "grown" since he was born...however some of my other boys I have had to have more patience with...Dirlei (youngest) loves all kinds of weird sounds on his guitar...lol...
My daughter in law (not here now in another area of Brazil) worked with the choir she liked lights and gloves and the works...they would fast and pray for weeks before they would have their singings and whatever´s...Her group still continues...
My son Michael likes the Negro Spiritual´s...
Ednei and I like the Jewish worship class...he is my clone up here...when it comes to worship….
Brother Alvear is laid back...Amazing Grace is fine for him...

I am full of adventure...Now that is crazy for an old woman like me...I love a challenge...My class might come out dressed like Jews of long ago...they might have worship flags...never can tell what might cross my mind...

I think excitement is great and creating an atmosphere for worship is a special gift...

I think common sense applies…Did not Paul say some have a song..some a this or that…

OF course you do not know what I went through with some visitors up here...

I am different...don´t fit in anyone´s box...I showed up at our convention with my group and sit up a booth for the tabernacle feast! Got people´s attention...got to tell them a lot about the feast of the tabernacles...

Well you won´t find trained dancers and beer drinkers and hooter´s girls preforming at our church..but you may happen to come on a Sunday that Brother Alvear says do something Janice...

I'll boldly state I disapprove of colored lights, smoke machines, and strobe bright lights being utilized at any youth/adult event.

I've studied their origin, and you'll mostly find these instruments within a night club.

I hope we can a civilized dialog after my questions have been asked.

1) What are your motives behind bringing these instruments into the church?

2) What do you believe these instruments would accomplish for youth or adults?

3) Are you trying to create a club/concert atmosphere for people? (understanding 99% percent of these instruments are utilized at a club/concert)

4) Are you trying to infuse the church with the world's utensils for attraction?

5) What ever happen to plainly preaching the word without utilizing any form of club/concert attraction?

7) Is your message "living for God is cool"?

8) Do you feel your colored lights, smoke machines, strobe light concert filled Christian rock music can accomplish more than a regular lit building, with a preacher preaching and a sovereign move of God?
1Corinth2v4,

Thank you for beinging forward this important issue for the church today. The evils of modern inventions cannot be emphasized enough.

Emulating methods and using things used in the "world" had got to stop. I have even heard of churches being air conditioned like those evil night clubs and concert halls that host Rock and Roll music.

I have also heard of churches using electrical amplification to artificially enhance and magnify voices, instruments, etc. This is something the church in Acts never did.

It is time for the church to wake up.

From what I read in the old testament, these instruments were used to worship God.

A better question would be, how can rock bands and clubs justify using these instruments that were created to worship God for their own agenda?

I don't believe they have ANY part within a church service. Leave this junk in the clubs and concerts were they belong.

I am very busy at the moment...but my last point here for a while would be: Common sense...
Pray...follow the leading of the spirit...each pastor will answer to God for their own group.

Re: Colored Lights/Smoke Machines/Strobe Bright Li

I have to say... we had a drama at our church the middle of october last year... have had it off and on for the past 5 yrs. It had colored lights... smoke machines... loud music... even had ambulances and firetrucks...sirens... all kinds of noise music effects... you name it... Every agency that works with troubled teens in the Dallas area were our sponsors... we had over 500-700 teens that had never been in an apostolic church show up those nights and probably close to half of them receive the holy ghost!!!

There is a time and place and reason. We are a conservative church by all means. Our pastor is considered very conservative by any in our org. However we are NOT conventional by any means! That is why our church is having a massive revival that many are not seeing... We have just in the last 2 months sent out 3 more full time evangelists out of our church... and many more basing out of our church are heading out full time. God is moving and I feel it would be a lot different inside our church if we refused to see outside of the box.. Thank God for our pastor and the other 20 who work under him who have a massive VISION for the lost!

If by unintelligence, you mean undeniable logic, then I would agree.

I'm whole heartedly against it. This is one,of the many reasons, we left the upci. My Pastor.. who is only 38, recognizes that these theatrics are very worldly in appearance. And it makes a Sanctuary look like a concert hall. It does not belong in the Church. Time will tell.
