Re: Is Jonathan Suber a three-stepper?

I know that this thread is over a month old but if you go to Suber's church web page (I think it is new) it would seem that he has leanings towards being a one stepper (http://faithtabernacleshreveport.org...nt/view/16/35/). Or it could be that the Bishop of the church has those leanings and Bro. Suber and he don't really see a big difference.

No real problem exists over the use of "The Name" in everthing else done in the Church. Why then should there exist great controversy over the use of the "The Name of the Godhead" in water baptism?

That belief statement is consistent with other one-stepper ecUPC churches. It specifically refers to the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial sign of speaking in tongues as an endowment of power for sanctification and evangelism.

The only difference is that most one stepper belief statements add that this baptism of the Holy Spirit is "subsequent to salvation" and most use the word "empowerment" rather than "endowment".

It is ambigious enough that you could have it both ways but I would think the very fact it is ambigioius in comparison to how most three stepper belief doctrinal statements read speaks volumes.

JS may be trying to chart a new path without alienating those many three stepper folks who hold him in high esteem and might even have him preach now and then.

As Elder Epley has pointed out in the old days many "one stepper" preachers preached baptism in Jesus Name and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues so strongly you would not have realized they were one steppers at all.

CC1,

I have visited Bro. Suber's church and there is nothing different about what he teaches and preaches than he ever did. I really enjoyed the service.

Blessings, Rhoni

Just curious as to why folks are so interested in JS?

I think it is because he was a up-and-comer in the big time preacher dept. in the UPC, and then he, as so many on here love to say, "left the Mother Ship".

There are many who are waiting with bated breath to see if their predictions (either way) come true. Kind of sad.

Because he recently left the UPC while at the top of his game. He was a well known evangelist in high demand.

Right up until he left he was preaching many camp meetings, conferences, etc.

He went to exUPC Kenneth Phillips Church and exUPC W. Hutchens Chuch in after leaving the UPC (he lived in Austin and worked with both churches and based out of them).

He recently left Texas to take over the pastorate of a church in the Shreveport, La area that is not UPC. This is interesting in itself as he prevoiusly pastored in that same area as a pretty conservative UPC pastor.

Is he not conservative anymore? If that's the case, it would cause many tongues to wag.
