We never did the Santa thing here when our kids were little. Our Christmas was centered around the birth of our Savior.

While I have a Santa hat, and two reindeer headbands, and some stockings now, I still don't have any decorations with Santa on them. I just never made it a big deal one way or the other except to say that we choose to not make Christmas about Santa, like others who may not celebrate the birth of Christ. Our focus was on the Nativity, Baby Jesus, wise men, and angels.

And I always told them the history behind Santa Claus, the man, Saint Nicholas; a very kind and generous man who gave gifts to children in his village many, many years ago. So they know where he came from, and how he evolved through the years from different storytellers.

It doesn't bother me at all to see others celebrating with Santa because of who the man was that started it all. He is a fine example of Christian love.

i am afraid one of us will have to get past the Vikings and it appears that will be no small task.

when we played the Vikings, the QB had not really settled in and they almost got us. Now that their QB is playing well......

and if you guys get them, that will be the third meeting this season... no small task to beat them 3 times...

Yes, Truthseeker, I have heard it said people worship their cars, their house, their kids, and their etcs...
I have also heard that there IS a Santa Claus. But hearing that, doesn't make it so. Its called separating fact from fiction, anything a rational adult should be able to do.

And you're right again. It does SEEM like people do worship them. However, the operative word here is SEEM. The word "WORSHIP" in this sense is figurative and not literal.Thats the trouble with judgin with the eyes. Things that SEEM a certain way doesn't necessarily make it so.

Let me ask this, is believing deity/idol a form of woship?

If I understand your question, no, merely believing in a diety is not necessarily worship. Many people believe in God, but they do not worship Him. The devil believes in one God, but he does not worship God. There are a great number of things that I believe in, but that doesn't mean I worship them.
But, and I think this is where we differ, we aren't talking about idols and deities here. We are talking about Santa Claus, an invention of man. A fictious character. Thats what I meant earlier when I spoke of the difference between real and unreal. Santa Claus is not real (I can't believe I'm actually saying this), he has never been real, and never will be. True, the Santa character is based on a Catholic monk, but the character itself was invented so that non-religious families could have a reason to celebtrate Christmas.

In regards to Santa Claus, there is nothing to worship or believe in (unless your name is Virginia).
