You think it'll be a hung jury? I hope not, because then it can be re-tried. Before this trial, I believed GZ was guilty. The 9 1 1 call where he seemed to follow was key to my feeling GZ would be found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
However, after hearing the testimony of both the SPD Liaison and the HOA President, I have changed my personal opinion. Both said the training class instructed people to follow at a safe distance; plus the SPD Liaison said, from the description, she considered TM's actions suspicious as well.
So that helped me resolve my biggest issue -- GZ following TM.
Based on that, I do not believe the State has met the burden of proof -- they have not proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Personally, I feel GZ
should be acquitted. We still have the Defense's case to watch next week and possibly the week after, depending on how many witnesses they bring. I'd imagine they'll have their own DNA and medical expert, possibly GZ's personal physician. Officer Chris Serino will be called back, since West indicated he wanted to question him as the Def's wit. Rachel Jeantel and Jenna Lauer are also still under court subpena.
Cross finished. Re-direct now.
