Well... just to take this thread off the original topic and go along with the topic under discussion...
The way I had almost exclusively heard the word used (in this type of application) was when a woman was referring to her husband. This would be a respectful way for a lady speaker to show she was "under submission" to her "head," i.e.: her husband. By extrapolation I've then heard the term used by ministers to refer to their boards and/or leaders- those to whom they are accountable in this life.
When the term was first used here, the thought crossed my mind of a male "pastor" (called a "he") who had a "covering" - that is a husband. I quickly eliminated that possibility- just because I didn't want to really go "there."
For a minister to refer to his "flock" as his covering, I think would show a profound sense of service on the part of that minister. But to be honest, I've never heard it used that way before.

from STMATTHEWS: Covering is a term the Charismatics use a lot. It simply means that you have someone over you for accountability purposes. An example would be that Rev Jones is a minister, and has come under the "covering" of the ministry of Apostle Smith. That simply means he looks to Apostle Smith for accountability.
st matthews has won the award. You are the MAN!! Thanks for clearing that up.

OK, LETS look at the word covering. So let discuss covering. I am not talking about a woman HAIR. We are talking about a true ministry covering. The flock is not a covering for a Pastor.

See that was what I was thinking. So if this is the case does this mean a district head listened to someone else and believes it and is acting against the Pastor?
