I have not read this thread other than the author's post but I can tell you that if a "star" comes to Christ Church Nashville expecting attention they will be sorely disapponted.

They are welcome but not given any special treatment or recognition. At least not in the eight years I have been here.

I sat next to Lee Greenwood and his wife one time in church! He wrote a check for $100 to give in the offering!

I told Mrs. Pianoman that if that check was his tithes, he hurting and we need to bring his needs before the Lord!

Preacher adoration has been with us since the days of Paul. Some said that they were of Paul other said that they were of Cephas. Paul asked them, "so who died for you?"

That adoration is quite normal, expecially when that preacher loved that lost soul to the saving knowledge of He who loves above all. It is not something to be condemned neccessarily, unless it becomes more than the love of God that attaches a soul to a Father figure. I adore brother Kilgore. He is my hero, a father to me. He once told me who his hero is. It is entirely and spiritually natural. The most powerful and productive churches are those in whom their pastor became the father to all. If I were a pastor, I would be a father...as true of a father as I am to my own children. I believe a wise Pastor would seek to become such...through unfeigned love, true devotion and dedicated to a life of service for whom Jesus died.

Just my opinion, of course.
I like this post!

My first pastor, who won me to the Lord, I viewed him as a father figure and I believe many of us did. He instilled some very good principles that have influenced my life and always will.

Thanks Jeanie...

I was hoping someone would recognize any merit in that post. Thanks again.

This is probably the way the "star" wants it to be.

I sat by Jesse Dupantis and his wife , she looked at him and asked what to give. He showed her 5 fingers, I was thinking 500.00. I looked at the check, it was 5000.00.
I can't wait until I can give 5000.00 in the offering.
