Re: Health Insurance
Regarding Germany's healthcare system, the roots of it go back as far as the 1800's with Otto von Bismarck. So, private costs have been kept from rising out of control for nearly 200 years, unlike what has happened with America's private insurance market.
We're so late to the game. Any effort to integrate private insurance with a government system would be integrating a private interest with costs that are already way too inflated, which will limit any effort at cutting costs and negotiating prices. Any system like that seen in Germany would just be another Obamacare-like disaster. At this point, single payer is the only solution that cuts out the inflated insurance providers by making them merely supplemental options, and gives the government the most leverage to negotiate costs (services, equipment, prescription meds) directly with providers to lower the overall cost of care.
Those who have resisted any form of government insurance have allowed this problem to become so out of control... now their worst nightmare... is the only solution. lol

I feel very fortunate. The company I work for offers Starmark and they pay very well on medical claims. We do have a $3,000 deductible but our company gives all the employees a loaded debit card each year to cover the price of the deductible. So far my wife and I have not had to pay anything out of pocket for our medical expenses.

That's a decent plan. It's kinda like mine. I have a $4000 deductible plan. The government frontloads my HSA with $3,000 every year. Once my yearly deductible is met, I'm 100% covered.
Imagine the cost employers take on to provide plans like these. I'm not sure employers should have to carry that burden, especially if they are businesses. They need to have more resources freed up to focus on business. At least, that's my opinion.

Do any programs like Medicare/Medicaid step in for those in the 55-65 age range?

Is there any safety net?

Most people work till 65 because of this, if they can find an employer who provides healthcare.
I have had premium health care from my employer all my life. I just want to retire early. If I want to buy health care it will cost me $600/month.
My desire is to retire and focus on this daughter work church I am a part of.

As for my Sister, she can only make $12-$15/hour she cant afford $600/mo for insurance.

My BP meds run $50 something a month. With the Blink Health app I paid $8.95.

You sure those aren't sugar pills you're buying? That's awesome.

Re: Health Insurance
Metformin was free. If your sister uses generic meds the App can bring the cost down significantly.
I am tempted to cross into Mexico. I could probably get 3 months of meds for $10.
My friends wife was ill recently. She saw a doc in Mexico. The visit and the meds cost around $30.
I don’t know where your sister lives. Here in Texas I can see a doc for $35-$45. But everything is out of pocket.
