Just visited the website. Saw the page you linked to. the "What We Believe" part is way down at the bottom. After a rather large-graphic intensive spiel about how relevant they are, and how they exist to serve the visitor.
"Our church exists to love you where you are and move you where God wants you to be. We do that by creating and conducting ministries emphasizing these core values:
Generosity
Restoration
Acceptance
Community
Excellence
Everything we do is propelled by this why. We hope you'll give "GRACE" a chance. Christian Life Austin is known for dynamic worship, expositional teaching of God's Word, and a balanced blend of the Spirit's power to educate, edify, and empower every believer. We're here to serve you." Our high-energy, age-appropriate, and Gospel-centric services and activities will be the highlight of your child's week. They will experience live acting Bible stories as well as worship from our children's praise team. Our caring volunteers strive to create a secure and fun environment that will have your children begging to come back. The moment you step into our state of the art student center, which includes a game room and cafe, you know we're serious about investing in teenagers' lives. We desire to help parents raise a generation of passionate worshippers, Godly young adults, and well-rounded citizens. Aside from weekly services on Wednesdays, we also regularly host or attend camps, conferences, and special events. http://clcaustin.com/ResizeImage.asp...g&w=1200&43314
Sorry, but this is what's wrong with American religion. Bland, milquetoast, generic, seeker-oriented (ie self oriented), entertainment centered "religion". This type of marketing is all the rage at the moment, even though it's the very thing that's losing an entire generation (actually two) who don't want and don't care about all this "hipster hype".
Sorry, PO, nothing personal about the pastor. I'm sure he's a great guy. I'm sure he means well. But this type of approach to Christianity is why church is becoming more and more irrelevant to American society. Judging from the website I'd say the pastor may not even know what's on it, looks like it may have been farmed out to someone else (maybe even a web marketing company catering to churches).

Maybe. I do wonder if you are missing cause and effect. I'm fairly certain there has been a major decline in Christianity in America for years now. I always that seeker-oriented churches were the effect of the declining numbers of church going Christians in America.

You have never been to his church. They invest their very lives into people. His church cares because he does. If you go to lunch with anyone from that church, I don't mean a visitor, you will likely see them invite the waitress to church and talk about being saved. These people are serious about what they are doing. It is life to them.

It's a feedback loop. People drop out of church. The church tries to win more people. People become more selfish and self centered. The churches become more "seeker oriented" to sell to those people. This produces more self oriented pew warmers. Who get disillusioned, or whose children at 18 bolt and don't look back. And on and on it goes, a vicious cycle, feeding itself.
Implosion, like a supermassive black hole sucking all life out of society into itself, collapsing into a singularity of transhumanism and the Idiocracy.

Possibly. Know of any studies or polls that show retention is better or worse in seeker-oriented churches than regular ones?
