And yet, many of them have been bitten -- and harmed. Some have died. What's up with that? Not enough faith? OK, but what about the ones who are not bitten? Enough faith? Or skill and luck? They know what they're doing. They know how to hold them safely (with the occasional goof, of course).
They can't lose: When it works, it's God. When it doesn't work, it's lack of faith.
Seriously, why don't these people chug some cyanide or something? Now that would show some faith! (If it works!)
Sounds very similar to many things. The same thought process is used in faith healing sometimes....when it works, it's God....when it doesn't it's lack of faith...to some. That is when faith healing is used as idolatry in a legalistic fashion. Most of us believe in faith healing but don't say people have a lack of faith necessarily if they are not healed. But many things are this way in the church culture.
Yes, and snake liver bile is especially effective as an aphrodisiac so I hear Scott. Of course I've never tried it myself. It's a magic potion for men. :sshhh
I would have to be DEEP in the spirit (out of my mind!)before I would attempt to handle a rattler!
Someone asked earlier if I have ever walked out of a church service. Let me tell you...I would RUN out of that service!
I will be ahead of you!!!
Shock-a-moo Shock-a-me get that snake away from me!
They take that scripture literally. That's fine with me. I guess I don't have that much faith.
Funny, isn't it? I mean, they are blasted for taking a scripture literally but UPC women are to follow verses that someone else interprets as saying something that scripture doesn't say or they are lost.
Crazy, I tell ya.

As one who has questioned the place of female preachers in the New Testament Church, I can only say one thing.... PREACH IT SISTA!!
