Re: Craigslist Anyone?
My brother in law and I busted up a CL scam being run out of a storage unit a few years ago. A family member had bought a washer/dryer set and, since it looked new and there was no place in the storage unit to plug it in to test it, they paid a few hundred and took them home. Turned out to be a couple of expensive metal boxes. Nothing worked. We noticed several more postings using the same phone number, but a slightly different email address and name. He and I set up a meeting to "purchase" a set, met a lady at the storage unit. Turns out her husband worked with some local appliance company that would fix or toss appliances like this. He would take the machines the company was tossing, clean them up and sell them. There was a tense moment when she called her brothers and they came over. But in the end, she returned the money. After meeting with her, we went to the storage unit office and complained to management, who in turn went out and gave them 24 hour notice to move out due to violating their TOS agreement. I kept checking for a week or so to see if she posted any more ads, but I didn't see any.
