Re: Is it okay to hug your Pastor?

Awwww...come on.....where's the love?

Hugging is just a noncommittal way of expressing an appreciative emotion.

I get the feeling that nothing out of the way would be thought of if Jermyn gave Renda a big hug since he expresses an appreciation for her?

Actually, these extreme rules create a type of hyper-sexuality that makes people interpret everything as sexual and actually creates situations that otherwise would not exist, in my opinion.

^^^ THIS^^^

There was a time when a woman's ankle was a big turn on and showing it in company made a woman a hussy. There are and have always been cultures where women openly breast feed and men run around in thongs and nobody thinks anything of it.

Covering and unveiling is very seductive. I think one of the only things I ever understood in the dress code of the UPC was the rule against slits... That flashing of the thigh is undoubtedly peek-a-boo sexy.

Yes, it seems to me the best thing to do is go along, reasonably, with societal norms. It seems when you begin to make a big deal of things that people don't see as a big deal it becomes a problem. On the flip-side, if society considers something a big deal, that is the society we live in and should be respected. My two cents....

Depends on whose thigh it is! lol

I remember the story of the missionary that went to another country where the ladies in their culture were topless. He sent back to headquarters and got tee shirts for all the ladies. At the next service the ladies that were nursing their babies had cut out two holes (in strategic locations in the tee shirt) and came on to church nursing their little ones.

I go back to my idea, its Ok to hug your pastor if he has not been on a bathing fast for 3 days.

We had a Pastor Elmore when I started at that church. He wasn't very approachable at all, as far as hugs, and neither was his wife. However, he was only my Pastor for about 3 months.

Then Pastor Rufus and Sister Pam Parker became our Pastors!

My fondness of them makes me teary-eyed at times. When I knew them, I never thought I'd be anything other than an Apostolic for all of my life. They were BOTH so loving and so full of joy!

They were both so very kind to me! Pastor Parker was a hugger and so was Sister Parker, but she only hugged me a couple of times-- but it wasn't out of coldness or anything like that. She DID NOT have an "unapproachable" air about her, not in the least bit.

Knowing the two of them and being a member of their church made my time at Okinawa a positive experience I will always remember! They didn't have any of the nasty, self-righteous attributes that I often found at the other UPCI churches I attended after leaving Okinawa.

In fact, I hadn't even heard of the UPCI until I was stationed in Okinawa and would NEVER have attended UPCI churches for as long as I did if it wasn't for my year experience with the Parkers!

Pastor Dennis was the one who started the Asian Military Mission and I hung out with he and his wife on one occasion on Kadena. I remmber a joke he made that seemed to speak very sarcastically of the "sin" of watching
"Fantasy Island" on tv. He preached at our church once for the nearly year and a half I was there.
